I know this isn't tech..but i need some network help

I use a netgear wireless router on my rommate's computer; on my computer, i have a d-link wireless card.
My internet has been bulletproof until a recent windows update...
Now, it won't let me access the d-link air config tools (i get the hourglass icon for a sec, then nothing), and my internet comes and goes...it would stop working, then a mintue later it works again.
At the same time, my firend's internet on his computer is working fine.
I downloaded the following from microsofot:

"Wireless update rollup package for Windows XP is available

Microsoft has released an update rollup package for Microsoft Windows XP that includes the hotfixes and updates that are described in the following list. This small, comprehensive rollup of updates is an easy mechanism for managing the rollout of Wireless fixes. "

This made my internet connection NON-Existent...
SO i uninstalled it, and my internet works again but randomly...


Any ideas?

You may want to try the guys in the networking forum.

If you have the update number post it along with your router model and wireless card model.

Don't get the new MS roll-up package unless you don't know what you're doing to secure your network. It blocks ALL ports and you have to specifically tell your computer to use certain ones for certain programs. It sucks.

here's another random tip... the roll-ups enabled the "let windows manage my wireless connection" checkbox in the control applet for the adapter. If you go there and uncheck it, sometimes that helps. I had the same problem with my linksys card, and once I got windows to stop trying to manage it, I was able to successfully use the linksys utility.
