I have a couple of webhosts that have these installed, but I don't know how to go about getting a database driven site going where users can submit info kinda like that of the pic.bbzzdd.com hosting service

From my perspective, the concept of PHP and MySQL is very easy. The biggest problem you are going to have, will be with installation. For the learning purpouse I would encourage you to install PHP, MySQL, and Apache separately, one by one. There is a good tutorial, although a litte outdated over at the webmonkey. I do have my own tutorial as well, if you want it, PM me I can search and send it to you (my tutorial is for windows though). Also make sure that you are going to install and configure phpmyadmin, which is nothing more than a GUI interface to MySQL. This little program is very handy, although once again it takes a while to configure. Overall, PHP seems is a very forgiving scripting language. It is very easy to learn, especially if you had some previous programming experience with Java or C++....
You will be just fine!

get a quicker response here, but thanks for your help

It wouldnt be that bad if people posted everything in the correct forum. It is the fault of members like yourself that the other forums are so "slow."

and after you learn more about php/mysql, if you want to test out some stuff before making your site live,

try out phpdev.

phpdev - What's it all about ?

:) - well its all about getting PHP/MySQL/Apache (PERL)(others?) running on your Win32 machine.

Wow thanks that looks like an excellent resource, lots of great info. Thank you again, any others?

Fortunately I do have (several) webhosting accounts which have PHP/MySQL so that's not a problem. I'll even offer webhosting with your own website, your own e-mails, webmail, PHP, MySQL to AT'ers at a discount, please e-mail me at rossman@gottadeal.com with your website space, bandwidth and monthly budget specifications. The webhosting I will be offering is not the same webhost provider who I use for my forums.

Here is a screen shot of the control panel you'll have full access to.

AnimeKnight & ndee - Thanks for the great links!

Would you mind sending me your tutorial to rossman@gottadeal.com? If you're interested I can provide free webhosting for the tutorial if that's ok with you?

When you say your tutorial is only for Windows, does that mean the webserver has to run Windows or is Unix Apache ok?

Well since you edited after I replied Ill reply again. If people that post on topic threads in off topic posted them in the correct forum, the real forums would get more traffic and people that are here to learn and teach things may see the topics more often instead of only a group of children that like to post news stories repeatedly throughout the day.
