the halo around the moon tonight? Definitely very cool. I'm in the VA/ Virginia Tech area and there was a complete halo around the moon tonight. I was able to see the entire color spectrum refracting in a perfect circle around the moon tonight 😀

I wish my digital camera wasn't out of batteries otherwise I would have taken some pics. Anyone that can, run outside right now and see what you can see. Here on the east coast I can still see it through my window right now. Once again very cool 😀

saw that in arizona on spring break...pretty damn badass..how the hell does that happen? we were all drunk and wondering and came up with some really dumb theories

Water vapour in the air. The moonlight refracting through the water makes the halo and the different colors. This halo was rather small, probably only about 3-4 times the diameter of the moon itself. There was another halo a few few months ago that literally took up half the sky. It was right around mardi gras (we saw it during my fraternity's mardi gras party) and the majority of the party stopped for a few minutes to go outside and see the halo (probably 30-50 times the radius of the moon). That one was really cool too. That was the only thing that was truely visible in the sky.
