How do I tell if my processor is actually running at 1 gig?

In Windows, go Start > Search and search for dxdiag.exe. Run it, and it'll tell you what your CPU speed is. There are myriad other methods you could use besides this too

no need to search, just start, run, dxdiag, enter

Or you can go download SiSoftware Sandra. It'll give you system info, and you can benchmark.
