Lame post, but I just have to, so close now unless super bored or want to insult me.

Last night I wanted to move some files from old PC that I hadn't even turned on in months. Forgot the password, but thanks to someone in this forum who posted a link when I had this problem last time, I actually had a bootcd to blank password. Amazingly this cd was on the top of a pile of clutter, and even though it was unlabeled like all eleventy billion of the other cd's in the pile, it was easily recognizable because of the small data burn ring on the data side.

Took me several attempts, but finally got it right. Managed to get filesharing going after several tries and several odd events such as not being able to ping the router that had already connected and assigned IP through DHCP. wtf.

Started copying files .. copying .. copying .. copying .. omg I'm going to bed..

This morning, the transfer had halted because of a stupid "read only" file. Hit okay and decided to let it do its thing while I got breakfast.

Came back, fiddled with settings on new comp. All looked good, so went to old box ..

.. discovered that the NIC was a 5baseT card.

Ok. Fine, I'll just hook up my USB drive and copy files to there.

Copying ... copying .. copying ..

It's a PIII with USB 1.1 :(

Never heard of that.
Me neither, but that's what the option in configuration dialogue said. Google isn't too helpful.

Maybe it's a 10baseT NIC, and for some reason that's what the setup called half-duplex?

Sounds like that would make more sense

I only have 1 monitor, so I'm not gonna check til the light on my USB drive stops flickering :(

Just checked and that's what it says. Although according to google, 10base5 is supposed to be coax, and this definitely uses an rj45 connector. I was getting about 7mbps over it.

No, the problem is that I have an old computer with an old NIC. The fact that I called 10base5 5baseT just means that I'm inattentive and unknowledgable :D
