AIWGuru, the high performance units like the Alphas pull air from the heat sink. This has been true as far back as the slot 1 and slot A models and continues to my 8045 Alpha. Putting the fan on to blow onto the heatsink is a common error for amateur assemblers.
I disagree. Putting the fan to BLOW onto a heatsink IS NOT a "common error." The Alpha is the only heatsink I've ever seen that actually "sucks up" from the heatsink and blows upwards instead of downwards.
I'd hazard a guess that 99% of the CPU heatsinks manufactured in the past 10 years blow down onto the fan. You're right about the Alpha, but a little off on that "common error" part.
I've never tried it, but I'd say that if I flipped the fan over on my SLK-900A to blow up instead of down onto it, the performance would suck. Get it? "suck?"

I made a funnay!

Oh, this is positively one of the filthiest heatsinks EVER. :Q In fact, I saved the pic for future use. Kind of a "don't let this happen to YOU" type dealie.
