I knew Newegg having UPS was bad, but this is just wrong...

Well, atleast Newegg customer service hasn't changed, though everything else has. The wait time is certainly not what it used to be and based on how the rep sounded, I'm just part of the mass influx of calls regarding UPS complaints and refunds. They were able to refund my shipping as I requested and they are allowing me to wait on the RAM to see whether is still good or not. As you might guess, I'd like to avoid this again if possible.

Thanks for listening everyone and I sure hope newegg will begin to realize that this UPS crap will end up crushing them in the long run on many fronts (long time customers leaving, as a tech I will no longer order for clients from newegg, the RMAs an refunded shipping costs, wasted time with emails and customer complaints, the free shipping provided on an RMA). Those things will all kill newegg and doesn't take a genius to think about it. If the company were really "trying," then it would have happened already.

As someone said before, "it IS possible to be pissed and pleased at the same time," and that I am. I, as well as many of you here, are saddened to lose such a reliable partner in business. Perhaps the VP should show something like to the P of newegg, obviously the waves made thus far haven't been big enough to cause a flood.

Once again, thanks for listening everyone and thank you for your comments, I hope this doesn't happen to any of you, but if it does, aleast we can sympathize.

But does the RAM work?

That's what I'm thinking......

dunno, im not scheduled to install this ram until friday. I put it in a different plastic case so that the client doesn't know better (just some old people). I honestly think it will probably wor. Shockingly enough, the ram doesn't appear to have any physical damage that I can see. I went over it with a magnifying glass, no cracks or separation that I can see. So I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best. I'll let everyone know friday if it worked, as well as give pictures of the box (I wish I had the first box, but all I have is the side panel of the original box that was taped to the new box).

I'm a longtime reader and first time poster in the anandtech forums, but I thought this is something everyone should hear. For the past 3 or 4 years, I have ordered about 90% of my computer gear from Newegg, just as I'm sure many of you reading this have as well. My most recent order was made on the 4th of January and received on the 9th and 10th. I ordered a 256mb chip of WINTEC DDR ram for a client and a Thermaltake 120mm LED case fan for myself. Of course they were shipped separately.... one from New Jersey and one from California. The TT fan from NJ arrived just fine on the 9th... But the ram, which arrived on the 10th came in a HUGE box for just a shipment of ram (about a 12x12x12 inch cube). Evidently, this was because my original package was destroyed and UPS repackaged my ram en route... I opened my cube to find my poor client's ram battered and beaten, and to my best guess, RUN OVER by the UPS truck!!!! the plastic ram packaging had creases all over were there shouldn't be and the bubble wrap had no bubbles left!!! On top of that, my invoice was crumpled and torn into 2 large pieces, while it was missing the upper left third of the paper. I have NEVER in my life received such a package from a company like Newegg. Whether it be UPS's fault or not, Newegg should NOT be promoting such a poor shipping company. IMO, this is completely outrageous and unprofessional. The ram for the most part looks fine and may be functional, but I'll be requesting a full refund from the egg because shipping it back to them would be more expensive than keeping it and taking my chances!!!

%%

I am completely insulted about the poor shipping that newegg has to offer and referring to the former threads and posts around x-mas time, I think that Newegg VP must think we are stupid if we believe they are not making profit off of shipping. DUH! GET A CLUE EVERYONE! The whole reason behind the individual shipping prices is to con everyone out of their hard earned money and so that Newegg doesn't look like the bad guy! Why do you think they offer free shipping incentives on some items? That's because if you buy another item, they will just ship it together. They aren't stupid, they just assume everyone else is!

That's all I've got for now, I'll update everyone when the rotten egg opens tomorrow and I can request a refund for their junky shipping service and my beaten to h3ll and back ram...

Oh and Mr. Newegg VP, why don't you tell me why I should still shop there when I get packages like this. And QUIT playing innocent about the whole FedEx prices, public relation reps will say anything to quell the masses when something happens. Here?s a thought for you, how about real-time warehouse stock tracking so that when you check out and things can be packaged together, YOU DO IT! At the same time, when you package things together, charge LESS! Sheesh, its like a broken record with people telling Newegg about crappy shipping service. Instead of saying that ?you are trying your best to find a solution,? throw that BS contract you have with UPS in the garbage because you aren?t going to do a damn thing for anyone until that happens.

Im sorry to hear about your package and we do apologize for the inconvenience. CS will be contacting you to address your situation.

As for your comments, I do appreciate your candid input and assure you that we are working on improving the shipping calculator. However, everything I have said is true. We always try to pass on any savings we get from manufacturers to the customer. If the manuf raises prices or lowers, it does have a direct impact on what we can offer to the customer.

Wow I never knew a complaint on a public forum could actually help in a resolution. (y) congrats newegg for seeming to care about the customers.

Fatwallet has several threads that company representatives haunt for this very reason- they are especially useful for lost rebates...

Well, ftr, Newegg did not contact me (whether it be via email or by phone), I called them (not sure how much time I should have waited but I wanted to get this settled). The thought was nice though....

i used to buy alot of things at newegg cuz the prices were decent and i love the free fedex 3 day express shipping
now that they ship using UPS, i hesitate to buy from them

I used to be a Newegg buyer but the mere thought of UPS touching anything of mine makes me crazy. I went to ZZF and actually saved $10 on the RAM I was looking for anyway, and got the 2-day free Fedex. The idea is, using UPS was what made me look at a competitor. That may happen a lot these days.
There's some feedback for you neweggvp. UPS is costing you customers.

...now that they ship using UPS...

As has been mentioned over and over, THEY STILL USE FEDEX! Pay the fvckin' freight for your goddamn FedEx shipping if it means so much to you! What a bunch of morons around here...

You seem more than aware about the stories about Newegg and UPS lately, as well as the responses of a Newegg representative in the forums. Yet, you still picked that option to ship your package. 😕

Up to this date my experiences with Newegg have been pretty good, a particular exception being the time that the FEDEX guy left my item on the next door neighbor's front porch (very puzzling, since the number was distinctly wrong).

But I must admit I'm glad to see serious competition from other reputable contenders such as ZZF, and in view of the narrowing margin of savings and customer satisfaction issues I'm browsing more of those competitors, when I never used to have to give it a second thought.

Exactly - I know one business that hates FedEx so much that they actually refuse all incoming parcels from them! It's an absolute pain trying to keep that all straight so we're not in trouble when they complain their package didn't arrive & demand a refund when they requested next day air...

Although I do get a kick out of the boxes Newegg uses to ship out 3 day select, where printed in bold letters on them are the words "Not for use with 3 day shipping."

But regardless, the whole "I hate Newegg because I hate UPS" thing is quite old and quite overdone. Maybe the mods should start removing these threads for being reposts, I wouldn't be opposed to that. It's not like they don't offer FedEx as an option...

EDIT - and I'd like to see that profile enabled on the neweggvp account, just to check that the e-mail address is from newegg.com 😉

UPS sucks, NewEgg doesn't, although it was a stupid stupid move to make UPS their default shipping option. NewEgg + FedEx FTW

I've switched to ZipZoomFly because of this as well. Their prices were close enough to begin with to Newegg, but I stuck with Newegg up until this point because I had used them for so long. Sure, I could pay more for the Fedex option, or I could just buy from ZZF who offers it for free, or at least for a reasonable price, and save money. I'm not a fanboy of any of the shipping companies, I just opt for the ones which I've yet to have consistantly late, damaged, or undelivered packages through. It's really too bad for Newegg, because they have a lot going for them and I've spent thousands of dollars there, but I can't afford to keep buying from them if I can't trust the goods to arrive in a timely manner and in decent shape.

While any shipper can screw up a delivery or damage a package in transit, I can count the number of Fedex packages this sort of thing has happened to me with on 2 fingers out of hundreds of deliveries (Fedex Express, NOT Fedex Ground) ... UPS on the other hand has been much worse no matter what level of service I've used, with close to a 30% problem rate... they've delivered stuff to the wrong address, damaged many items, delivered later then scheduled without so much as an apology, never mind a refund ... bottom line is that they offer inferior service to Fedex & even to the USPS.
The problem with "Pay the fvckin' freight for your goddamn FedEx shipping if it means so much to you!" is that Neweggs prices arn't the lowest anymore & paying double the shipping price really sours the deal even more... its nice that Newegg cares enough to read the AT forums & similar websites, as I said earlier they DO have good customer service but I'd bet they are spending the bulk of their time with customers these days dealing with UPS-related issues like mine & the op's.

There's a solution to that and that's to shop elsewhere. I don't understand why people buy from newegg and then bitch about their prices over and over and over like someone put a gun to their head to only buy from newegg.

Long time egg user here.... I've recently switched over to ZZF for my purchases since I don't want to have UPS handle (read: kick around) my PC stuff, and I think it's absurd that you get a break on shipping when buying multiple items that end up shipped in the same box. The last time I bought from the egg I ended up paying 2 x 5.98 to get 2 small usb flash drives shipped. They came in the same small box, no way did that cost almost $12 to ship. Sorry, I still like newegg's customer service etc, but the UPS/shipping sucks.

yea, a LOT of people have issues with FedEx.

my fathers company will NOT ship via fedex because they break all kinds of crap, while UPS does not.
(toilets, sinks, etc)
