At least with Macs, the upgrade bug isn't nearly as tempting. There's nothing to upgrade! So...anyone else want a mac? Anyone want to trade systems?

We have a few of the G4's and a bunch of the blue G3's, and they rock!

Apple just cut prices on them too. If they could get above 500Mhz, I would buy one.
 
Yeah. The only thing good from them is their LCD panels. Their computers are a rip off. Have you seen their Apple store? They are charging $150 for 64MB of PC100 memory, $300 for 128MB of PC100 system memory. This is your standard SDRAM that can be had for 1/4 of that price in most places.
 
I think if I got a Mac, it would get me off of this expensive habit known as upgrading my PC.

I was looking at that 22" display. It is so bitchin. The ATI Radeon is an option for their computers now🙂

I would love a G4. Only thing is there is no way i would sacrifice my PC to get one. I just love gaming too much.

PS - By that i mean that there isn't enough variety available on the Macs for me, I am not talking about performance
 
I run a couple of the dual G4s at work. They are fine, but limited by the MacOS. It just crashes way too much for me to take seriously. Windows 9x crashes less than the MacOS does. MacOS X crashes less, but there are so few apps and running in classic mode is even slower than attempting to run the slow as molasses MacOS X. Ick.

Besides, Macs are way behind in the hardware world when compared to PCs. Unless you are doing print publishing, I would avoid Macs altogether.
 
That Radeon's not going to do anything if you don't have the games to play it on. If you are in to Photoshop... fine. But I don't see why anyone would buy a G4 to surf the net. Since you can't play all the games you can on PC... its not worth it. Hey.. I'm all for improving key rates for TA, but that?s a bit too much IMO (Your just using it as an excuse ight? 😉).

Oh yeah... forget about multitasking if you want to get a MAC.

For what? You need more in the winter months? Hehe. Yeah, you know your comps suck when they sell high-end with 64 MB installed. That and they just upgraded from ATI Rage a MONTH AGO.
 
Even for Photoshop, G4's are trash. Look, I benchmarked a G4 500 against my Duron 700 @ 1 GHz on several different everyday functions (NOT THE ALTIVEC-SPECIFIC PLUGINS that Macs uses), and ON AVERAGE, my Duron did the tasks in 1/4 the time of the G4. Same amount of RAM, too. Mac's day is over.

Macs suck altogerther. If it wasn't for those macfanatics and people buying iMacs (so that their computer can match their curtains) Apple would be outtta business a long time ago...



OS X? It makes me hate Apple even more. They ditched their own crappy kernel and used to efforts of thousands of volunteers. If they cared about open-source (and we know they dont), then why dontn they opensource the entire OS X???
 
Isn't OSX based on BeOS? I thought they would release it as open source since BeOS is open source... bunch of pig.
 
The Mac version of the Radeon doesn't support FSAA either. Or was that with the Voodoo 5 that I am thinking of. One of them two doesn't. That's for sure.
 
Hmm...so I guess it's not wise to go G4. What about a PowerBook? Is taht what they call them still? What about an iBook? How are those? I dunno...I should be content at 1GHZ🙂

SuperGroove, do you have any use for a Laptop? Go ahead if you &quot;just&quot; want to own one. Sounds like you don't want to waste money on upgrading you PC... but you're actually wasting more money by buying these toys. 🙂
