i killed my card it think

i installed a zalman heat pipe cooler on my video card and when i reboot i get awfull lines both vertical and horrazontal.
i was carefull not to squish or press anything and i did get a little arc tic silver on the pcb i was carefull to clean it all off.
would an alcohol bath help?
maybe if i soak the pcb in alcohol and gently scrub it?
arghhh help please im havin to run with an evga mx200

The caps shouldn't absorb alcohol,You can try cleaning the area off, but more than likely the damage has been done, and something shorted out With a bit of luck tho... You never know.

Out of curiosity, why did you put 8lbs of aluminum on your 9600Pro in the first place? I'd think that card would run quiet stock, and be cooler?

I was wondering the same thing. o/c'ing a 9600pro gives very small proformance gains as you can't even o/c to xt speeds most of the time. Even if you could there isn't a huge differance between the 2, you are still severly limited by the arcitecture.

Long and short of it, i have seen 4 people on this fourm ruin their cards by putting new hsf's on them. Anyone who is reading this should take note of that and really read up on how to do it themselves.

VGA Silencer seems like a better solution than the heatpipe. Thats alot of metal stuck to your card.

yup i gave it an isopropyl alcohol bath and it still wont even post
i got the vga cooler free and givin the tiny size of the stock hsf i thaught what the heck.
im going to see if ati can repair it but i doubt it

Those cards are only ~$90 these days. Probably not worth it to have repaired. On the bright side it sounds like a good excuse to get a 6800GT.

It's possible there was poor contact between the Zalman cooler and the VPU. You may have overheated your card or even burned it to death.

If the vertical lines where in 4 or five wide bands, evenly spaced across your screen, you probably fried some of the ram on the card. Might as well toss it out.
