I moved away from home about a year back, and changed apartments a few months ago. Ever since then I've been getting mail seemingly for my dad but at my address. My middle name is his first name so I'm not sure if there was some sort of mix up there.

The types of things I'm getting are just insurance offers and such. Geico ads when we don't have geico and things of that nature. It may seem paranoid, but I'm just wondering if that could cause problems with any important mail that might get sent in the future. Car registration, insurance, or anything like that. I'm also not entirely sure how to remedy it as I don't know how it happened.

Anyway, it's not really a big deal I'm just curious if this has happened to any of you and if it needed to be fixed.

Talk to the PO where you left your forwarding address. they can sort out the issue.

No worries, it's just junk mail.
I moved here 9 months ago, started getting mail for my daughter (In her maiden name), she moved out in '97!
Just the other day, got mail addressed to my ex-wife! We've been divorced ~5 years.
Check on 411.com still shows addresses I had 7 years ago, & lists (associated) members of household!
They're just phishing.

About a year ago, I started getting stuff addressed for my parents. All junk mail. The kicker? I haven't lived with my parents in 11 years, since then, I have moved 5 times and my parents moved 7 years ago.

Where they are getting their information? I don't know, but junk mail is annoying as hell. No, I don't need or want your shitty credit card, Chase. I've never purchased anything from you, Pottery Barn, why do you waste your time sending me catelogs?
