I keep feeling this white stuff at the back of my mouth

So for a month now, I've noticed in this sort of side pocket of my mouth, next to the thing hanging down the back of my mouth near my throat, there's some sort of "pokey feeling" so I had my tounge feel around, and it wasn't regular cheek tissue. So my tounge keep massaging and pressing on it, and eventually it gave way. Turns out, it's this white stuff, it's moderately hard, solid at room temperature and it looks like decayed tooth material. I was thinking maybe my tonsils are decaying, but this is too far forward I think.

My mom thinks its pop corn that got stuck at the back of my throat, which I think is pretty reasonable, only it keeps occurring and I haven't had pop corn for a while. I'm going to the dentist pretty soon, but I wanted to hear ATOT's thoughts.

Interesting, I'm not sure it's exactly this, it could be. I plan on getting my wisdom teeth removed pretty soon, So that's good, I reckon.

I'm not exactly sure it's where my tonsils are. It's more my upper cheek, but I just did a mouth rinse with some salt so that should help.

If you reach back in there and place a smoldering match on it, does it hurt?

yes, very much so. 🙁

Wow, I never knew what they were called (Tonsillolith), thanks Quiksilver!

I usually cough them up, hairball style, like once a year. They taste and smell like SHIT. Oh, solution, crystals, blah blah.

yep... I get these all the time. I pick them out with toothpicks... I can consistently pull 4-10 good sized chunks out of my tonsils every 2 weeks. nothing i can do to stop them short of getting my tonsils removed, very annoying.

:Q

I would get my tonsils removed if it got as bad as one every ~2 days. I barely get one a year and they drive my insane, my mouth smells bad, sometimes I almost swallow them, etc. Seems like I stopped seeing them once I started smoking...

Think of this: I can touch the back of my throat with my tongue, so I can feel them every time they're there. Imagine how annoying that is!

For the record, I brush my teeth twice a day, floss a couple times a week and mouthwash a couple times a week... nothing stops them

😕

I am as negligent as can possibly be when it comes to oral hygiene, I smoke, and I drink caffeine laden sugar water religiously. I haven't had one in ~2 years. This is quite confusing. I think your tonsils are defective.

I think for me the problem is my srsly impacted wisdom teeth. They're probably messing shit up in my mouth. I have noticed this shit every now and then, but it curiously picked up a little more than a month ago.

I'm wondering if that's the same thing or not.

I'll cough up little white masses occasionally too. I often cough up large amounts of phlegm or sinus drainage (not sure which) throughout the day as I have terrible sinuses, prone to at least one sinus infection every year, and always draining crap. Pretty much hourly I'm spitting crap out if possible (in class, not so much).

I always just thought those little foul masses were just undigested food that got caught in my throat or something. It doesn't really happen regularly, but it's disgusting as hell when I do cough one up.

That wiki article seems to describe them pretty similarly, but with the whole being surgically removed or removed by basically picking them with something, that and being calcified to a degree, leads me to believe they are a little harder.
I definitely believe whatever I'm coughing up on rare occasions is the partially digested starches and whatnot from food, since everything in saliva does begin the process of digesting starches.
