Watching a launch in person is one of my major life goals. Must really be something else. Bad luck this time, but I'd rather see the shuttle grounded than exploded into a metallic mist mid-flight. Your profile says you're from Florida, have you seen a launch before?

yea I have. I have seen 3. one at night. it is an amazing thing, and I was pissed that I could not drive up there for the drive for this launch. maybe by the next proposed launch I can make it.

but ofcourse, everything must be 100% and any problem must be fixed before it becomes fatal. on top of that, they have usually delayed shuttle missions until they find out the reason the last one went bad. I was not alive during Challenger, but I am sure they did something like when the Columbia accident occurred.

anyways back to bed

I've only seen one launch and it was a night launch. My wifes parents live pretty close to Kennedy and I got to see a launch one night from their back deck. It's AMAZING how the shuttle lit up the entire night sky orange. It's funny because you don't hear anything, then all the sudden the sound travels far enough for you to year it and it shook the ground like an earthquake and it was loud. Then it makes a sonic boom which was awesome also. It's really something everyone should see once.

I saw one launch from our boat in Mosquito Lagoon years ago. The noise was deafing and the heat was so intense even when it was 93 degrees outside. That's the best place to see if you want an unobstructed view at least it was back in 96. Law Enforcement keeps you back about 2 miles IIRC but with a good set of binoculars you can see the launch pad and watch it take off. After 15 seconds after it launched the temp. went up a good 15 degrees. It was intense.
