I just went over my cell phone bill $100

Apparently Cingular's service to check your minutes as you go throughout the month is not totally accurate, and can be seven days behind. Since I use that as a reference as to how much more I can talk in the month, I managed to go over by about $100, at .45 a minute. Luckily, Cingular did say they'd cut that 50%, but still, I'm a moron. This is the first time I've EVER been over on my cell phone bill, too.

don't you usually have a general idea of how much minutes you use ?
and I'm still waiting on that Samsung 😛

How'd you get them to cut it down by 50%?

I have Cingular also. Local calls usually lag 3-5 days, roaming calls seem to take 2-3 days more to be accounted for.

Typically, carriers will cut the overages in half if you're a first-time offender, routinely pay your monthly bill on time (no late or missing payments), and have been a customer for a certain period of time.

I went over to this girls house a couple weeks ago. Her cellphone bill was sitting on the table. $290!

I was like uh...that's a lot! And she's like "thats normal"

Our phone bill was 265 last month....(we are on a family plan, and yes, my mom used 4/5 of the minutes)

How do you go over? Are you a woman? What are you doing on the phone so long?

My girlfriend lives far away, so we don't see eachother very often, so we compensate that by talking on the phone. Since I only have 1,000 night and weekend minutes, it adds up.

I have cingular too and they pull the same thing. I never had this problem with T-mobile, their minute usage was instant and accurate. Cingular make you wait to access it and it's inaccurate. Also - their customer service is trash, and they charge you for EVERYTHING, even voicemail retreval. Their billing dates are designed to fool customers into thinking they have minutes, then waiting for them to go over and charge them 0.45 a minute. They also don't let you change your plans easily after you become a customer (they want to sign another contract).

I have two months left on my Cingular contract, but I have already started a new T-mobile account to use because they are so much better. Can't wait to get rid of Cingular!

Cingular's billing is no different than any other carrier, so wtf are you talking about? Show me a carrier that doesn't charge you for voice mail retrieval!

I once went 822 minutes over my account at $.44/min. Work did not like paying that, so they upgraded my plan from 1500minutes to something absurd like 6000. 99% of our calls are on our cell phones, and we have very few land lines running around and it actually works out to be cheaper when long distance/some international is included.

A few years ago with Tmobile I was never charged for Voicemail + I got free WAP and more mintues. Now I'm switching from Cingular to Tmobile, getting 1000 minutes vs 450 for $40, a new phone, and full Internet by proxy for $6.

Why do people get cell phones with limits on the minutes ? I have phone service from Cricket with unlimited local minutes and 600 long distance minutes per month. I feel that if you run over your limit that it is not the cell phone company's problem. By the way, I pay $42 per month for the service and I have had 0 problems with Cricket for the past two+ years.

I've never heard of Cricket, and I can't find an "official" website about it. Care to elaborate?
