I Just Watched A New Shamwow Commercial

I LOL'd hard watching that. Vince hasn't aged that well.

The new shamwow has some zinc thing in it to kill bacteria.

I thought I would share 😀

For some reason I thought Shamwow guy died. Must be thinking of the oxyclean dude.

The Shamwow guy will be dead soon if he believes zinc kills Covid.

Yeah, the Oxi-Clean dude is dead. And the Orange Glo dude. And the Ultimate Chopper dude. And the Grip Wrench dude. And the Dng King dude. And the Jupiter Jack dude. Of course that's all the same dude.

It might. I didn't watch the video, and I don't care enough to look it up, but some metals(copper specifically) are hostile to bacteria and viruses. A zinc impregnated mask could help keep it from becoming a petri dish.

So get yourself some diaper rash cream?

Using a Shamwow as a reusable Swiffer pad seems like a decent idea, though. I wonder how many times you could reuse it before it wears out? I could see that working on linoleum or wood, but running those suckers on a tile or stone floor would rip them to pieces.

Huh? Zinc is known for virus inhibiting products. Zinc products like Cold-Eeze are not exactly snake oil (unlike vitamin-C products such as Emergen-C and Airborne).

Now I don't know if it would be effective in a mask but I don't think it's going to kill anyone either.

If I understand correctly, almost any metal destroys viruses, but even tiny amounts of mercury / copper / lead is very bad to ingest - so we have zinc products instead.

Believing you're protected against something by a magic bullet when said magic bullet is a placebo can most definitely kill. Zinc CAN work on some viruses if administered internally early enough and it does that by boosting your own immune system, NOT because it kills viruses on contact. It's the same way that penicillin works against infection if you swallow it but not if you wear socks impregnated with it. There's not a shred of evidence to suggest that a zinc mask is even one tiny bit more effective than any other mask.

Your body needs copper.

Look it up.

How does it "boost your immune system?"

I've heard professionals say the only zinc products that are proven effective are the throat lozenges. From what I've read and heard, it helps reduce/suppress the initial viral load by directly inhibiting the virus in the throat, and that's why it only helps when taken early (slow the virus, allowing time for the immune system to get started before virus takes hold in lungs and elsewhere). This suggests it doesn't "boost the immune system," but rather impedes viruses directly.

I looked it up on Wikipedia and the hypothesis agrees with my existing notion:

"The hypothesized mechanism of action by which zinc reduces the severity and/or duration of cold symptoms is the suppression of nasal inflammation and the direct inhibition of rhinoviral receptor binding and rhinoviral replication in the nasal mucosa.[1]"

Anyway, I don't think the zinc mask is going to hurt anyone. I also wouldn't expect it to help any more than a regular mask (without zinc).

Yeah. The dose is the poison. Iodine is a necessary nutrient, but even small amounts are still toxic. It is added to salt as a supplement because they can add a safely miniscule amount and it's difficult for people to ingest too much.

Normally we shouldn't need to seek out copper to ingest. Trace amounts from the other things we eat should be enough.

Of course, too much zinc would be toxic too. Even pure water can be toxic, but water toxicity requires consuming an extreme amount.

About 10 years ago I picked up two 4 packs of shamwow towels from a dollar store.
They are god damn fabulous. I still have one or two lying around. I’d say the 10 year figure is pretty accurate.

Do you say "wow" every time?

Not every time....
They were great for drying a car after it’s washed. Worked great for cleaning the tub of our old place. Bathroom fan didn’t work that great we had to wipe tub down to keep mold from forming.

The absorbing about a quart or water then releasing it when twisted is pretty accurate
Worked real well for carpet stains too, just not as good as shown

this seems somehow appropriate:

Pathologist James Robb is quite possibly the world's leading expert on Coronaviruses since he first described them in the '70s. Back in February he sent his colleagues a message which got leaked:
James Robb said:
Stock up now with zinc lozenges. These lozenges have been proven to be effective in blocking coronavirus (and most other viruses) from multiplying in your throat and nasopharynx. Use as directed several times each day when you begin to feel ANY “cold-like” symptoms beginning. It is best to lie down and let the lozenge dissolve in the back of your throat and nasopharynx. Cold-Eeze lozenges is one brand available, but there are other brands available.
Straight from the mouth of quite possibly the world's leading Coronavirus expert.
All the people promoting Zinc and Vitamin C as immune system boosters are full of crap, which is why there's a lot of valid Zinc debunking going on out there. Still, it's important to understand thar Zinc DOES have a place here.

Look shit up yourself. Finding one sentence on Wiki that doesn't say something is not freaking research.

And you're completely wrong about the zinc mask not hurting. Any idiot who believes that shit for even one second without knowing it's all a giant bunch of shit (like you) might believe the mask offers extra protection. There's no other reason to buy a zinc mask other than the clueless belief that it's an improvement over non-zinc masks. And said person might then become complacent and take fewer precautions because of belief in the magic of the mask. WE HAVE SEEN THIS REPEATEDLY THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE COURSE OF THE PANDEMIC. People who believe they're protected by something that turns out not to protect them wind up fucked. PAY ATTENTION.
