I just watched 38 hours of How I met your mother...

Now I'm pissed off.

My friend said it was quite funny, and I'm always looking for something different to watch so I decided to give it a go. However it seems to have caught the lost disease of answering random questions without ever asking them.

I got to the end of series 4, that's 38 hours in and I have no idea who the mother is. Pissed me off. So I checked online, turns out that people in series 7 don't know. Fuck that shit.

I stopped watching lost after series 3 for the same reason.

Anyone else find this stuff irritating?

Wow...you really don't get the premise of the show.

It's about a guy narrating his experiences BEFORE meeting the mother. If they got to the mother part, the series would end.

I figured after only watching the first episode that they wouldn't answer that question.

It's the premise of the show. If it is about to get canceled, they might give you a conclusion.

But why is the narrator voiced by Bob Saget? Ted is already an adult so you can't justify his voice changing.

I was under the impression the premise of the show was meeting the mother... Not his entire life preceding that event. They keep putting in these "cryptic" clues that are just shit, and irritating.

I don't understand why they couldn't explain who it was, then have them start going out etc. There was some show about a father a while ago in america, the dad dies and they continued the show...? How would this be worse than that?

Again, it's the premise of the show. It's in the title, it's been a part of it from episode 1. They want you guessing, but it's not going to be resolved until the end (and maybe not even then).

See "Jack & Bobby" if you want an example of similar kind of premise.

It's not worth guessing. I'd actually watch the show if it weren't for this crap.

Uh, you can tell from looking at the daughter that Robin is the mother.

Uh, you can tell from looking at the daughter that Robin is the mother.

And yet he refers to her as Aunt Robin.

The answer to your question is in the show title. If you've ever told the story of how you met your spouse, you tell it up to the time you start dating.

But that's only the gimmick of the show. The show would be funny even if there was no gimmick, and it was just about some kids living in New York City. But you generally need that gimmick to tie the show together long term and provide focus.

I'm nearly 100% sure that we'll find out who the mother is in the series finale, and no sooner. I do think they'll start writing her in as a bit part that Ted doesn't notice earlier in the final season.

Forgot to comment on the Bob Sagat thing: that always seemed weird. The weirder thing is that I didn't notice until it was told to me, and I still forget it's a different voice while watching.

The story is being told 20 years in the future though, so it is possible that his voice would change a bit as he ages.

I saw him date a woman in one episode, and when they broke up at her apartment it showed her roommates leg going into a bedroom, as if that was her. Every so often they do something like that, as if he is always close to her but doesn't know her yet.

If we find out, it's kind of over. I too do not get the Saget thing.

Unlikely since she's usually referred as Aunt Robin by Bob Saget's character
Guess I should have watched more than 3 episodes.
Thought it was going to get complicated when she told doogie houser
that she was preggers.

Kind of like how Kevin Arnold's older self was narrated by Daniel Stern. Uh, Kevin went through puberty already.

It'd be pretty sweet if the mother has actually been in every single episode so far somewhere in the background but never pointed out.
