I want this show to be funny, I like the people in it and think it should be good. When i watch it though my eyes slowly start to glaze over and I realize I'm not even paying attention to the show anymore, I'm thinking about something else. I think the writing is just poor but I never make it through enough of the show to back up this theory.

Without Barney Stinson and his bro code, not sure if the show is worth watching.

Wow! sucks to be you.

You need 38 hours to decide if a show is funny or not. Also, don't you kind of forget this after a few months. Why bother?

Wow...you really don't get the premise of the show.

It's about a guy narrating his experiences BEFORE meeting the mother. If they got to the mother part, the series would end.

Yea this. Meeting the mother is the premise, but really it's not the point of the show. It's essentially a context to be able to tell all these stories. The show isn't about meeting the mother at all, just a group of 30 somethings hanging in NY.

If you're watching the show to find out who the mother is, you're really doing it wrong. lt's not a mystery or a serial show, it's a sitcom and most of the episodes are pretty standalone. Unless this show is phenomenally well planned and written I can't fathom the mother reveal will be meaningful beyond a way to end the show. Basically you're watching to enjoy the journey, not the destination.

Honestly, I still watch, but around the end of season 4 is when I felt the show start to drift humor wise. Still better than most shows, but it's starting to grow stale.

I like Marshal and everything Jason Segel does as well.

It's a good show, and IMO the whole narration thing and title tie-in just takes away from the strengths of the show.

I also find it humorous that Barney is such a lady's man in the show but Neil Patrick Harris is gay in real life... and then they made his black brother gay o_O

OP, how old are you? I could have sworn you're supposed to be in your 20s, but you sure act like you're a typical ignorant junior high age kid.

The show is the best of the CBS "comedy" shows, but its not great. To me, its like a less interesting version of Scrubs (silliness for silliness sake mixed with some drama, and set to a better than average soundtrack). Actually, a CBS version of Friends seems more apt. NPH steals the show. I didn't really like Jason Segal much, but he's slowly winning me over. Don't really care much about the rest.

It only took me an hour or so to decide the show was funny, the stuff that irritated me took that long to make an impression.

My memory lasts less than a week.

My wife seems to enjoy it, but I don't care for it much. To me, Ted seems like such a whiny bitch, I'm surprised he has any friends.

it's an american show, therefore, you refer to them as "Seasons," not "series."

we invented TV and TV entertainment, so deal with it.

also--not sure why you are complaining about disappointment after already wasting 36 hours on it.

The worse part of the show is doogie Houser playing a womanizer. His flaming gayness comes through and makes the character too unbelievable.

Love the show, although I do think the current season, and the last season, have been a bit weaker than previous seasons. I think the writing is great, and I've always enjoyed how "forward" the writing is.. There are references in seasons 1 and 2 of things that occur in seasons 4 and 5, etc. Just makes for a fun show. I think the OP is taking it a bit too seriously.

Did you start watching this season, or the older episodes? I think she was so much better looking before this season. I'm not sure if it's the haircut, or the weight loss, I'm leading toward the weight loss, but I found her so much more attractive in previous seasons.

I wonder if they already shot the scenes where Ted reveals who the mother is because at this rate, the 2 kids will be old as hell when they finally decide to do reveals. Looks like the film of the 2 kids whenever they show it at this point are stock shots... they used to speak in the early seasons, now you just get them looking on as Bob Sagat narrates.
