After 6 months of working at target It got to the last straw and I walked off... I said @#$ it..

Im 21, Senior in College, and was holding down two part time jobs (50+ hrs a week total) as well as 17 credit hours.

Numerous times I had been promised a promotion (due to the fact that I worked at least 2x as hard as most of the people back there) and that I was a good leader. (There are numbers generated for the backroom in a department store that allow the managers/supervisors to tell who is doing their job)

going to college and working that many hours got me run down, and I missed like 3 days in a 1 month period.... within that time I was issued a verbal warning about missing work (supposedly they allow you to be sick once in a while but he issues me one anyway) then tonight I got a written warning... Thats the last straw.

I bust my !@#$ a$$ for this company for 6 months, and after being lied to time and time again, and him letting others slip without warnings even though they werent doing their jobs, I get written up for missing a few days? I dont need this. He's done so many things that I just let slip because it was his first exec position, but after helping him I get slapped in the face by him turning on me with this.

Maybe I shouldn't have walked off, but it sure as hell beat getting slapped with a lawsuit for damaging something in my anger, or beating the heII out of someone.

and yes, Im mostly scotch/Irish, I have a temper ;(

Flame away if you think Im stupid or whatever, I have a few hours before Im supposed to get off work and sleep anyway

Not stupid. I know how you feel. I bust my ass working and I get no promotion and not even a raise. I'm about to walk off my current job in dining. It sucks. Just because I don't join the supervisors for their weekly getting drunk and stoned sessions, I can't be promoted. fark it.

And I have a second part time job I get 15hrs at a week, I might hang with that for a bit, I already paid my rent 2 months in advance.... and those 17 credits are hopping down my back, midterms next week

In college I got a job at Circuit City, they told me I'd be in the back with the computers but I ended up at the customer service desk. I lasted about 2 hours before I said I was going to the bathroom and just walked out the front door.

Geez, try dealing with Disneyland's management and customers for 5 years, then you'll know what the meaning of crappy job is. But it paid for school.

The guy who hired me knew I was overqualified (IE could be making more at some computer job) but told me I would be working in the back with the computers.... after a few weeks I asked him when that would be happening, and he said "oh, the PDT (aka LRT) are the computers I was talking about) These are the stupid little guns used to scan everything, not a computer... I put up with it because I needed to pay bills

He then told me his real purpose of hiring me was to spy on the mexicans in the back room and tell him if they werent donig their job etc. I said ok whatever, and went about my job. I told him when people were slacking because I had to work all the harder, he did jack squat.

I worked hard and stayed 1-3 hrs later than I was supposed to sometimes (this is a night job), just to help get the backroom cleared so he wouldnt get bitched at by the store manager, because I wanted to help, and then I get slapped with this BS for thanks....

I quit my job a while ago. New management. Yelled at me because I did something that "was not my call" WTF? It was before you got here.
Anyway, I walked home, called and told them that I terminated my employment.

He was threatened by you, he feared he would end up working for you since you are more intelligent and motivated then he is.
There are numbers generated for the backroom in a department store that allow the managers/supervisors to tell who is doing their job
You probably looked like the shining star and since you are obviously better suited for his job than he is, the moron had just enough wits to deduce that he'd better start undermining you by creating negative entries in your employee file, or as it turned out, busting your chops until you quit. Or not :p

As soon as I graduated I could have applied for an exec job there...

But I think he was more worried with me getting to a high enough position that people would listen to me if I had a complaint about him. As it stood I could have gone to the head guy and he woulda said "work it out with your supervisor:

No mang. try dealing that for two years. Bust my gut washing pots and pants trying to earn a promotion or just a raise. I did not get shait. :) 6.50 ain't cutting it. Those supervisors don't do shait and get 7.27 or higher. Their salary increase every semester but mine doesn't.

On one hand, I can't blame you for leaving ... quickly. I've been in Target near the end of the evening several times. I heard the way the unprofessional managment team members were talking to the employees. At times, I've felt like butting my head in their business because they were not treating the subordinates like human beings. In the end, I just bit my lip and headed for the checkout - and thanked my lucky stars that I didn't have to work at that store and for that particular unprofessional management team.

Then, on the other hand, I think that you may have walked away from getting a good reference. Had you just gone ahead and provided a standard "two-weeks" notice and then left after that, you would have been able to use Target as a reference. However, at this point in time, they will not be doing you any favors.

Best of luck to you. Keep in mind that not all companies/stores/locations are badly managed. Empty promises can pop up in almost any position with any company. I've seen it happen to many friends and even myself a few times.

You think you worked your butt off for that company? I would have agreed if those 50+ hours were for them. But like you said, you worked 2 PART TIME jobs. In their perspective, you were working less than full time for them. How does that guarentee you a promotion? You should have played it smart and chosen 1 job over the other. Then, you could have gotten your deserved recognition and promotion, plus any overtime pay that came with it. You did work your butt off (I know this because I did the same thing in college), but not for them.

Sorry but your a bit off friend......

From september till January I worked full time for them.... 40 hrs a week, when I say I worked my butt off for them you have to understand what I mean.

During christmas There were 4-5 people in the back room.... If I had worked at the same speed and put the same effort in as the rest of my coworkers the backroom would have been screwed...... I mean seriously, we wouldnt have gotten everything done every night..... Instead I would bust my hump, and LITERALLY get 2x the work done as some workers..... it got to the point my fellow workers in the back room were trying to get me in trouble.

Co-Worker while being addressed by his bosses about not working hard "I work harder than Bryan at least, why aren't you talking to him about working harder instead of me"

Boss: "Ok, we will check the numbers for this week then"

Statistics: Number of Pulls Number of Errors
Bryan 3016 3
Co worker 1523 8

Bryan after being told what his co-worker said: *ummm, what a joke, I dont work hard? I've been here for 2 months and I'm outperforming the people who have been here for 3 yrs"

I was literally doing 1.8-2x as much work as some people during that time, thats what I meant by working my butt off for the company.....

Plus, during the first month and a half of the semester I was still working 32hrs a week for them, even when I had classes the next morning 1hr after i got of work, now that was killer :)

I worked at Target for about 6 months too but I gave them a 2 week notice.
However, my friend walked out on them and then decided to come back 2 days later cuz he needed the money.

I was goign for level 3, level 2's arent being created anymore, they are trying to phase it out to save money or something like that...

I was told by 3 different managers that I was level 3 material, and by my current manager that he would make me a level 3 when this guy left.... he left, and I didnt get the promotion because supposedly the store couldnt afford another level 3..... then 3 months later they hire him back as a level 3.... that doesnt make sense, if they could have afforded a level 3 they should have given me a shot at it. The boss doesnt even like this guy and I think some interest group got involved...

Level 2 is being phased out, but not entirely.

You really shouldn't have quit. Super Target STLs can make more than 250K a year. It's quite possible to work your way to that position, too, even from the bottom.

I'm just a lowly cashier right now, but I generate hundreds of credit card accounts each month for the company. They treat me quite well. Random gift certificates, an IDP, whatever scheduling I want. It's not that bad. Some of the execs and l3s from the floor I don't like all that much, but oh well.
