I just used a land line... it was amazing.

I forgot just how awesome the quality is relative to the crappy cell phone quality I get in my house. Now I'm seriously considering just dropping the cash to have one hooked up. Night and day relative to a cell phone.

Anyone else come to this not so shocking conclusion recently?

*quick edit*
I'm in my early 30s so I did only have access to a land-line for the majority of my life. It's just been a long time since I last used one and I honestly forgot just how awesome they are. 😉

I don't want to offend you, but how the hell could you not notice this? Cell phone voice quality is horrendous.

At least here in CA, you really always want a landline. Cell phone 911 goes to CHP dispatch, which can take forever to get through.

A drunk driver hit the wall in front of my house in the middle of the night. I couldnt get a 911 operator on the phone for 10 minutes. Ever since then, I pay for a cheap landline in case of a medical emergency.

For those who dont own guns, I would be worried about how long it would take on a cell phone to reach a dispatcher if someone was breaking in downstairs.

lol @ kids that have known nothing but cell phones their whole lives.

Next they'll be telling us classical music is better than the poppycock that passes for music these days.

Give me a break. I'm in my early 30s but have had nothing but a cell phone for almost 10 years. I just hadn't used a land line in so long and honestly forgot just how much better it is. See, I'm getting older therefore I forget things. 😉

Is this true? I heard this years ago and then a lot of people talk online about how 911 calls now route through the right place using geolocation and what not too. Or cell tower location info I suppose....

I did hear the rumor that cell calls go to some idiotic CHP office in the middle of nowhere and they have to route you to the right city and stuff. This was why lots of people told us to have our local PD info in our phones... but honestly that's retarded. I'm all over the place. Oh sorry, now I gotta figure out the PD's # of the town 2 miles away? The one time I had to call 911 I ran to a restaurant a few buildings away and used their phone.

meh...I am on a landline for 8+ hours a day. Come work my job for a week and you will swear by emailing/texting/facebook

Just wait til you use VOIP. The clarity is amazing.

I used to have Vonage and thought it was awful. Granted this was quite awhile ago and I'm sure plenty of advances have been made in home VOIP since then. My work phone is VOIP and the quality is pretty good but I just assumed that level of quality was some business-grade tech you had to pay ridiculous amounts for.

I use my land line whenever possible. For one thing I don't get charged by the minute, just the month. I have a prepaid cell for when I need it. Unfortunately, even a land line is not always great quality these days.

$35/mo vonage worldplan and it's crystal clear... i hate talking on cellphones. And this 3g is not all it's cracked up to be either...

If you're just making local calls, a landline is still considerably cheaper than a cell phone. Here anyway, and especially if you want stuff like call display and voice mail.

I don't use a phone enough to justify both. I have a Net10 phone, and it costs me $15 a month with plenty of minutes left over. I don't joy call, so as long as the quality's good enough to decipher speech, it's good enough.

pretty much the same here. i have a cell phone and i've never gone over my minutes ever. i do hate the call quality over a cell phone compared to a landline though.

I'm in my early 30's also, and I bought my first cell phone in '98. I met my wife shortly after and we had cell phones for about 10 years. I remember after we moved in together, we decided to give up our landline (around 2001) and it was really unusual at the time. I remember trying to justify it to people. It saved us a ton of money because all of our relatives and friends were long distance. With cell phones every call was the same price whether it was calling next door or two states away.

So we did the cell phone thing for about 8 years, and when we bought our new home the cable company offered phone service at a very reasonabloe price. $30 a month, with all the extras and free long distance. It wasn't long after that we decided to drop cell phones all together to save money.

So it has been about two years we have been without a cell phone. And I love the fact I only pay $30 for a phone. I am no longer at the age where I am bar hopping with friends and trying to meet up with people so I don't miss it. For the last few years when my wife and I did have cell phones, 95% of our calls were to each other. That just didn't make sense to me for the price vs. usage.

Landline is where it's at. Fuck the high monthly bills, and don't even get me started on texting.

You could get a cheap ass prepaid phone at least for emergencies.

You must have REALLY crappy cell connection for the difference to be huge. It's a noticeable difference but nothing mind boggling.
