I just turned down a FREE 17" LCD, damn what will power I have!

RossMAN

Grand Nagus
Temptation.

Cliff Notes version: Dell Dimension 8200 + 17" LCD = $1,140 with free shipping, eBay the Dell Dimension 8200 for around $1,250 = FREE 17" LCD display.

After mulling over this for several agonizing hours I realized:
1) I already have a perfectly fuctioning 19" FD Trinitron monitor, what would I do with it? Don't want to auction it, packing & shipping a monitor = not fun.
2) I don't really want to go through the hassle of selling the Dell on eBay and risking the market being over saturated.
3) Most of my cc's are maxed out and I don't have $1,266 available (thank goodness for that!).

Otherwise I'd be the proud owner of a 17" LCD.

Damn Ferengi genes.

3/12 UPDATE: The pressure was too great, finally broke down and placed an order. Although the pricing error has been fixed I previously had a quote which Dell is going to honor (I think/hope). Gotta love loop holes 😉

this proves again that you can't always find bargain on ebay...

but i would have bought it

Dude you should have done that, and sent me the moniter. I've got a 13 inch that wants replacing.

RossMAN, I would have to agree w/ you, I too have an excellent 19" monitor and while a LCD, would be cool, I would have no idea what to do w/ current monitor. This is why I pass up on many of the deals I see for LCD's. You know the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." 🙂

If I had actually received my Dell refund for my 1702 I would jump on it.

But since I haven't, I don't have sufficient credit available to pull it off.

Damn you Dell and your month late credit refund.

That's quite a deal on that package. I was looking at that monitor just last night at their accessories store. The wife suggested getting an lcd flat panel instead of having our big 21 monitor that is so deep. I'd hate to lose the size of the 21". How are lcds as far as playing games or watching videos? If I didn't just start building a new computer last week, I woulda jumped on this even though it is not a home built system. item for item you can't beat it.

If I was able to give my current 19" FD Trinitron to my wife (already bought her a Samsung 17" 753DF for $89 shipped) or could sell it to a local friend for about $250 then that would offer motivation.

Guess I'll just have to wait for the next Hot Deal to roll around.

I requested a $95 shipping refund from Dell which was credited to my cc within 2 days, there's another $75 refund which I've been told could take up to 60 days to receive 🙁

So whatever happened with that LCD? Did you open it and ship it back or refuse shipment?

I refused the package. They received it at their warehouse January 21st. They told me the credit refund would take 1-2 weeks from that point. At the two week point I called them, they said they actually had 30 days. 30 day mark rolls around, I call them again. Whadda ya know, they effed up the paperwork & the process never got started. So, they re-submit it. Expedited this time, should go through in two weeks. Again at the two week mark I call them (this past Friday). Nothing. Give it another week, they say.

It's really starting to piss me off.

<< Yeah...why lose 2" anyway? >>

Doesn't 19" CRT = 17" LCD?

Not to mention the LCD is probably 35 lbs lighter than the 19" CRT and has a significantly smaller footprint on my desk where space is a precious.

Most 19 inch CRT's have an 18" viewable image size, so you'd lose about an inch going to a 17" LCD.

Depends how you feel...I had a 17" LCD and gave it to my dad cuz I'd grown so accustomed to my 19" CRT.

He, in turn, gave it to my little sister because it's the trendy thing to have these days...

Rossman,

I am so tempted to pull the trigger and buy (10) of these combos... I have a CC on standby.
How much do you honestly think I could ebay both the 8200 and the 1702's for?

I don't think I could get more than 600 for the 1702 and 1,000 for the 8200.
Now, if I made 200 a pop over 10 systems thats 2K and that is a sh!tload of work on my part... but it may be worth it.

Realistically I'd say you could get $500 for the 1702 and easily $1,000 for the 8200 if you ordered now and listed your auctions now (but who knows if you'll receive your stuff or even when - that's a gamble).

There's huge potential to make some easy $ with this.

Yea, I am worried about how long dell will take to get the stuff to me... last time I ordered something from dell, they took like 3-4 weeks to get a hard drive to me. And having 20 dell boxes in my apartment is going to drive my roommate and girlfriend nuts... I don't know if its worth it considering how much can go wrong.

LOL, for one it's worth the risk but 10 sounds like a super sized pain in the ass.

Bad idea. If you look at the auctions, most contain a display. Be it a flat screen CRT or a flat panel crt.

Although, there are some really dumb people out there.

While you're still giving, might I add I don't have a 17'' LCD? 😉
