I just stopped a Pit Bull attack . . .

Update:
I stopped by the hospital on my way to pickup my daughter from daycare. Both the girls were doing fine, their mother, grandmother and other sister were there as well. They were both being discharged when I arrived. No stitches for either of them, although the Dr.'s told the older girl that she should have had stitches. There was just no extra skin to sew together.

Update #2: My wife was explaining what happened to a friend of hers who lives near us and she checked out the local Elk Grove website to see if there was any information about the dogs today.

It turns out that there was a lady complaining about barking dogs, pit bulls, to her neighbor. She got onto the website and complained as well, I guess trying to see if someone else would complain with her to the animal control. She told the owner of the dogs that if he didn't keep them quite she was going to call animal control every fifteen minutes until they arrived.

In any case, the lady updated her post on the Elk Grove website saying that she no longer heard the dogs after 10:00 am this morning.

I think this is a definite lead as to who is the owner of these dogs.:D

I finally was able to log into the Elk Grove community website. I've posted a message about the incident and asked the OP if she can identify the dogs. We'll see.

Update #3: I talked to a detective who works in conjunction with the Elk Grove Citizen, a local newspaper. He said that there was another Pit Bull attack earlier this week, although in this case the Pit attacked another dog. The other dogs owners were there and witnessed the attack, no one claimed the Pit. Deputies had to shoot and injured the Pit Bull, and they still had to use pepper spray to eliminate the threat.

Also, the girl's mother and the older girl came by my house just now and dropped off this Gift. I can't even begin to say how truely touched I am by this. I asked the older girl if her younger sister was doing OK, and she says "Yes, better than me." The older girl was clearly limping when she walked away.

I still plan on getting them both something, I took the Ice Cream gift certificate into consideration, but there didn't seem to be anything local. I was thinking of maybe getting a Chuck E. Cheese gift certificate, something that they both might enjoy.

Any other ideas for a gift??

You know what's weird, I don't remember at all getting from my house to where they were (three houses down). I don't remember running or walking, it seems like I just got there, like in a dream, kind of instantaneous. Strange huh?

Update #4: I finally was able to post on the local Elk Grove website. I posted two separate threads pointing to this page I made. Hopefully it'll get the ball rolling a little faster. One reply so far, a lady's neighbor has two pits with similar markings.

We'll see.

==========================

A fifteen year old and a five year old were walking by my house, I was out working on my car in the garage. A couple of seconds later, I hear screaming. I step out, look down the street and see a large Pit attacking the younger girl. Theres a man there trying to kick the dog away, but the dog keeps lunging after the young girl. Both the man and the older girl pick up the younger one by her hands and feet so the dog can't bite her anymore. By this time I had run over there. The dog had turned onto the older girl, latching onto her lower leg. I ran up behind the dog and grabbed him by both sides of the neck, squeezed as hard as I could and yanked upward, he let go of her leg.

Both the girls and the man went into my house to call 911. I'm standing there holding this large Pit Bull thinking "WTF do I do now?" The dog kept trying to snap at my arms and head as I was holding him. I had a tight grip on his neck, but I wasn't sure how long I could keep that grip, as the dog was trying to wriggle loose. I then look up realizing that there are two Pit Bulls. The second one approached me and the dog to try to get him loose. Luckily the second dog (probably a puppy or the female) wasn't a threat and not aggressive.

I remembered that our neighbors house is vacant and they have a front porch area enclosed by a small gate. I walked the dog over to the gate and forced him inside. Then picked up the smaller dog and lifted him over the gate.

Both the girls had several puncture wounds on their legs, the older girls bites were worse. She was bleeding in several spots. Fireman and an ambulance showed up, treated them and took them to Kaiser South, a hospital near Elk Grove.

There is a Sherrif officer sitting out front right now keeping an eye on the dogs and waiting for animal control to show up.

I took some pics of the dogs but I'm also waiting for animal control so I can take some video.

Be back soon...

Awesome. Does anyone know whos dog it is?

Nope. Never seen Pit's running around loose before (near here). Neither of the dogs had collars.

I'd have gotten a firearm.

Or my steel-toed boots and a football suit.

Or whatever sharp piece of garden equipment was in reach in my garage.

I didn't even think of that. My first reaction was to run over there and help. I've got a four year old daughter, and I pray to god that someone would do the same for her if she was in a situation like this.

You should have broke their necks. Not bred for aggression my a$$.

Oh believe me, it crossed my mind more than once. Had it been my daughter being injured I don't believe I would have showed any self control.

Animal control is here, be back soon.

i hope the owners of the dogs get the book thrown at them, pit bulls are a dangerous animal and I am very happy that denver and most of the suburb cities have or are in the process of banning them.

I hope the girls are going to be ok, they will have emotional and physical scars for a long time.

Good job in helping them.

I hope they're OK as well. I'm going to stop by the hospital on my way to pick up my daughter to check on them.

Pics being uploaded. . .

Male lunging.

Not going anywhere.

I don't trust him.

You see the size of his neck?

He was calmed now.

Another neck shot...

Last one.

They should give you a medal for your heroism.

I'm not expecting anything, besides the officer didn't even ask for my name.

I think that knowing that the girls are both OK and better off since I was able to intervene will be just fine by me.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I think I'm finally calmed down now. Damn, adrenaline is a muther.

 for you.

my dad always told me if a dog had a bite on you that you go for the eyes. gouge them out with your thumb if possible. not sure if that works or not as luckily ive never had to try it.

You kick hard enough, break half the ribs, that'll slow them down...

I'd stomp it's neck though too... I don't have much sympathy for people when their dogs go around attacking other animals and kids...

ive actually witnessed a police dog shooting about 9 years ago. was a huge white mail pit bull that was running around an apartment complex nipping at kids and adults. the cops showed up, could not contain the dog, so they friggin shot it, i saw the entire thing.

i even walked by the dog after they shot it, one shot was fired, and it landed right between the dogs eyes.

this was in marysville ca, when i was 14.

Good job, though! You're the man now, dog!

Actually a swift HARD kick straight to the throat will usually do it.
