there is help on eidos interactive for installing and getting it to work. I was able to install it on mine but I had crappy graphics because of no 3dfx card.

It's amazing how some of those old PSX games look when played on an emulator. If only I had a big monitor and a nice couch to sit and play emulators on. Definitly recommend ePSXe as well.

On another note, the Xbox PSX emulator is AMAZING. It runs twice as fast as trying to play on my old 900mhz Athlon T-bird.

VII is arguably the best FF game...

Oh hells no. VI is the greatest FF game ever. I can't decide if it or Chrono Trigger are the best snes game ever. Throw in Xenogears for a threesome posing the question: which of the three is the best RPG (game, even?) ever made?

FFVII kicked some SERIOUS ass!

I clocked in SOOOOO many hrs it was crazy. Back when I was 15 I had the time to game a lot :)

I could have cried when Areis died also :( I was like WTF?! I had built her up and that just screwed it up.

I read somewhere she was SUPPOSE to come back but Square were running out of time so didn't do that. This is also why you see her 'ghost' in the Church near the end of the game.

Can't wait for Advent Children to come out.

To the question about PSX emulator quality... yes, the graphics are better than the PC version. My understanding is that (especially with the later PSX games) the textures they used were large and detailed, but were overly pixelated due to lack of hardware rendering and low resolution. So... when you slap it in your PC and load up ePSXe, your GeForce/Radeon goes through and renders the pretty textures in 1024x768 - 1600x1200 res and... ta-da! Aesthetically pleasing PSX games. FF7 doesn't really gain much from being played on an emu due to the lack of textured polygons (garauded shading? is that how it's spelled? ...anyway...) but games like Chrono Cross and FF9 show noticable improvements, as well as the GEARs in Xenogears.

As for the best RPG debate... I get torn between FF6, 7 and Chrono Trigger. FF6 because it was pretty epic for it's time and the sentimental factor... FF7 because of all the games it attached me more to the characters (like a previous poster, I seriously was so depressed when Aeris died) and Chrono Trigger because... well it was just a really badass game. Xenogears deserves honorable mention cause the story rocked, and the combat system was hella tight, but the second disc was SUCH a letdown.

That would be me :)

My mates were searching my name (before google days) and they found it and they were taking the p!ss for ages! :p

FF7 was the most engrossing game I have ever played. Loved the story and the characters. MGS was also another big favorite of mine.

MGS kicked ass. I barely every played the original Metal Gear. Just recently got a copy of MGS actually. Took it home over spring break and got my little brother hooked.

does ePSXe run FF7 perfectly? No lockups at any certain parts of the game?

MGS first piece of the 'stealth' game. Very different approach to the games I was playing at the time.

MGS2: Songs of Liberty/ Substance was also kicking ass imo. I got to the place where I had to shoot the 'flying camera things' to cross the bridge but I couldn't find them. And the fact that my save got trashed somehow has p!ssed me off. I was really getting in to that game also. A lot of hrs to get me back to the place :(

Farthest into FF7 I ever played on ePSXe was a few hours... mostly just trying it out. Never had a single problem though. Being an older game, you're less likely to run into problems with it.

because I still have my original FF7 discs at home, if ePSXe works well enough, I wouldn't mind playing through the game again for old time's sake :D
