dude, I had it running in like 43 seconds... it was trivial to the point I don't even remember the setup details.

Gawd, I can't remember what I'm using to serv it. is there an appliance version out there? I do know my implementation is in a VMware VM.

Cacti rocks tho, I use it for monitoring the bandwidth on the WAN T-1's at work. Wayyyyy better than MRTG.

Nagios is SNMP monitoring for services or interfaces, uptime is the focus, cacti is pretty much for bandwidth, tho it does do some other SNMP pulls and is configurable for different things.

I thought cacti could monitor interfaces and equipment and such?

yeah, it does. Utilization is the focus though. Nagios is better if you are looking for status. Its a subtle difference...

I know:(

In gentoo an 'emerge cacti' would have done it:(

Best case scenario I will be using a virtual install of gentoo since most of my drives on the fileserver are full and NTFS.
