I just spent $40 on a 8.45 Oz bottle of Vinigar

It was somewhat of an impulse buy, my dad is a big fan of Balsalmic Vinigar, and I bet it doesn't get better than this... Apparently Black Truffles are very rare, and are only harvested once or twice a year, in a couple remote towns in France...


Anyone ever tried it? or even just the black truffles?

it is truly a wonderful food item that is good with almost anything (over peaches, with salad, just by itself)
i would love to try an expensive balsamic!

I was under the impression that Balsalmics are only from the Modena region of Italy... This one is from France, as that is where the Black Winter Truffles are from...

It should have come with an eye-dropper...

yea what is the benefit of these speciality vinegars? Does it taste different than regular vinegar, as in.. way different that you can't tell its a vinegar? i hate vinegar lol

it tastes sweet yet pungent. Very rich and full bodied taste.
It really tastes nothing like reular vinegar. You can somewhat tell it is a vinegar, but not by very much

Balsamic is totally different from red/white vinegar. Totally. A really aged balsamic is syrupy and sweet - you can use it for ice cream topping or on fruit.

How old is the vinegar? I've never tried any vinegar mixed with truffles or truffle oil, but I've had olive oil mixed with truffle oil and that is fabulous. Very delicate flavor though.

I've had black and white truffles too. White are definitely the better flavor, but black are supurb too. Just too expensive to really use in a meal for me.

I ate at Emerils (sp) in Orlando a few weeks ago and had something like this. I believe it was aged like 25 years and was thick and delicoius. Amazing dinner, cost 600 bones though :p Boss picked up the tab!

Balsamic makes a lovely salad.
Some lettuce, mozzarella and toasted ciabatta cruton type things, drizzled with olive oil and balsamic. So delicious it's unbelievable IMO.
