I just shipped off $750+ worth of packages (3)...

Did the postman scan the packages like he promised?

I just shipped 3 packages today using USPS by having my mail carrier pick up my packages. I have Insurance and Signature Confirmation but both of those are worthless if the package isn't scanned at some point, (initiation point is most important IMO!). We're in the middle of a major storm up here in the SF Bay Area and I know he has a lot of mail to sort through to get delivered. I specifically asked him to scan the packages and he said he promised he would scan them...

Who wants to bet he will never bother scan them? It's 9pm now and it shows nothing on the USPS website about him "accepting" or scanning or whatever the packages. It's true that the USPS website can be very slow to update, sometimes taking a full day to update. The first two times I had to teach him how to use the package scanner because he didn't seem to understand that he was obligated to scan packages he picks up. This really was the worst day to send a package but I had to due to buyers requesting Expedited shipping.

Their system is sloooow for some reason. This is the reason why I like to use UPS.

You should be fine. Try not to worry and check back tomorrow afternoon.

Then why did you ship USPS if you are skeptical of them? I ship FedEx. I don't trust the post office myself.

I don't know why, but USPS workers are really against scanning packages for some reason. I've dropped off packages at the post office many times with printed and paid for labels from usps.com, and they almost always refuse to scan the package when I drop it off.

One time, I had a $500 item that I'd sold on ebay, shipped via priority with insurance and delivery confirmation, and it was never scanned at any point. The buyer asked where it was and I thought I was screwed. It eventually showed up after a couple weeks (priority should have taken 2-3 business days), and the only reason I know it arrived is that the buyer let me know. USPS never scanned it, and I'm guessing they delivered it using a slower method than Priority. If the buyer had claimed they had never gotten it, I would have been screwed, since I had no proof that I had even dropped off the package to USPS and the insurance I paid for would probably be worthless.

Fedex and UPS are 1000x better than USPS when it comes to reliably delivering packages and tracking.

$18 for postage is already painful enough... But yeah, a few more of these incidents and I'll have to use UPS. I do like having free boxes though (Priority Regional Rate). Also UPS 2 day shipping is significantly more expensive than Priority 2 day.

I've had delivered packages not show up on their website until days later. It's often very slow to respond. IIRC it did eventually update with the correct date/time.

OP was real nice in giving 3 Xmas gifts to his carrier!

In all seriousness, not only is their system slow, they don't really care either, you can call them up, and they just say file a claim if there is a problem.
USPS is just a joke these days. 🙁

It depends on the post office in my experience. My local PO totally sucks ... I drive miles out of my way when I have to ship things USPS.

Had an amazon package that had the finally delivery from USPS.

Tracking said it was delivered on Nov. 23.

It showed up yesterday in my post box. That's 3 weeks AFTER they said it was delivered.

Getting nervous when ordering from amazon now.

You get a pat on the back.

USPS is super slow,.. or in this case, lacking.

A few times, I've had stuff delivered and the status still shows it hasn't been picked up yet.
