I just saw the Preview for the movie 300!

Historical Accuracy:
Again, this isn't something designed to be used in school, but with so much done right, it's a shame an equal number of things are done so poorly, either for artistic license or some other reason. The Spartan hoplites are depicted in either the "heroic nude" or wearing something very much like thong underpants, which is laughable. Why do their helmets (except Leonidas') lack crests? Did they forget them at home, with their body armor and tunics?
No bloody armour? All they need is a S for Spartans on the back of their red capes.

It's not based on the actual event, it's based on the graphic novel. I would enjoy a well done version for accuracy as well but that doesn't take away from the enjoyment of this version.

I really don't like how people nowadays make movies where they take a historical event and play it up like those involved had some superhuman abilities and such. The origional historical texts were written by Greeks and already biased enough, why do we have to keep playing up the number of Persian and playing down the number of Greeks? There were over 5000 Greeks at the battle, but all we ever here about are the 300 Spartans.

who cares. it's a movie, not a documentary.

Well clearly I care? But its not just this movie, its pretty much everything nowadays. There is like an escalation of special effects and martial arts where they keep making the good guys into superheros and hte bad guys into retards. Its just hard to hold the suspension of disbeleif in a movie where people are responding with lightning quick reflexes, making impossible shots, and yet the enemies can hit the broad side of a barn.

If you want history read a book or watch a documentary, if you want entertainment watch a movie, otherwise stop whining.

but the orginal idea is based on fact. though it has been majorly changed for the comic and the movie.

If they decided to make a movie about Thermopylae and this was the result I'd agree with you. But since they made it about the graphic novel it's no big deal. I do agree with you in general however, there is too much of that kind of stuff in other movies.

I understand your distinction but I disagree with it. Even pure fiction is usually based on factual people and/or events...or at least theories. This isn't a documentary, it's a movie for entertainment. Given those two things i don't expect anything from the movie but fun (and a reasonable attempt at representing the graphic novel.
