I just saw something that really pissed me off.

So I'm in my apartment, getting ready to go out. I hear a bang, then a car alarm outside. I run out to make sure it's not my car that was hit, and I see an Asian guy, about 25-30ish in a tan Previa minivan in the parking lot with the ass end of his van pointed right at the back of a brand new 3-series BMW in a carport. The alarm on the BMW was going nuts, and it's obvious the guy had just hit it.

As I'm standing there watching, he goes forward, and backs into it AGAIN. And then did it 3 more freakin times :|. By now, a few more people are standing out there watching this idiot. He finally stops, turns, and drives right past me to leave the lot. I'm staring at him like WTF, and he smiles, and waves at me, and continues past .

Myself (and a few others) go over to the BMW, and find that the asshat pushed the front wheels right up onto the concrete parking stop. However, the car appears undamaged - it's dark out, but I couldn't even see a scuff in the paint. Nobody can figure out why he did it - the guy who owns the BMW obviously is paying for the carport, the car has been stationed there ever since I moved in here in January. So he isn't stealing his parking space. All I know about the BMW owner is that it's a young Asian kid (maybe 20-25). I've seen him getting into his car once or twice before, but don't know him personally. The attack on the guy's car had to be personal - nobody just does stuff like that at random.

Now the last thing I want is to get involved - I don't need some psycho who rams parked cars coming after me, or my own vehicle. He looked right at me, standing by my own car, so he knows who I am and what I drive, and he saw the door I came out of, so he also knows where I live. The BMW seems undamaged. Should I report this, or let it go?

How would you feel if that was your BMW that got hit? Call the damn cops. If many people saw him doing this, there is no way that he can blame it on you.

Report it. You'd want someone to step forward for you if it'd happened to you.

I know. That's why I'm sort of trying to decide whether or not to report it - I don't want my car keyed or rammed. As far as there being other witnesses, there were at least 2 others. However, I was the only one close enough to get a good look at him and the license number - the other people just came out and stood in the doorway. So, if I were to report it, he'd know for sure who blew the whistle on him.

And, like I said, there was no visible damage to the BMW.

He's already rammed one car on purpose for who knows what reason. With people watching, no less. I have no reason to believe he wouldn't do the same to my own car.

It has happened to me. About a year ago, someone (unintentionally) nearly totaled my car in the parking lot at work. Roughly $3k worth of damage. They took off, leaving me with a destroyed car and no recourse. There were a number of people in the lot, and not a one came and said anything to me about it.

I probably will end up reporting it.

Just tell the owner and see if he cares. If he does just give him a description of the guy, maybe he knows him.

Did the guy look like one of those asian gangsters? Around here those guys won't hesitate to send a couple pieces of lead flying through your window and garage at 2 am in the morning.

Someone hit my moms Minivan (hit and run in a temple parking lot) back in the late 90's. The only visible damage was that the front bumper was coming off (we didn't notice that before we got into the car, because we didn't need to go in front of it to get in) but the chassis was bent like you wouldn't believe, and made driving impossible with the car until it was repaired. To make a long story short, after my parents found out who did it (a combination of witnesses, and the paint color left on the bumper), he had a nice conversation with the wife (who hit the car) and husband at the top of his lungs. Yelling definitely gets people to confess to something, especially when the paint on your bumper matches theirs, and they have your paint on their bumper.

clarify please...sounds like a 3-some marriage

My father had a nice conversation with the family who hit my mom's car. The wife of that family hit the car, and the husband didn't know about it until my father started yelling. My mother, and I were in our car outside or that families house, and could here my dad yelling. My dad is the nicest person you could meet when it comes to helping someone out (he will go out of his way to help someone that asks), but you fvck with him (in this case, hit and run; in other cases stealing things), and he blows a head gasket.

Good that you found the person. I'll never know who nailed my car when I was at work, other than it was someone in a lifted, very muddy truck. I had to pay $500 out of pocket for my deductible (which is a LOT when you're working PT making $7.35/hr). That little incident pretty neatly offset 3 weeks of work :(. There were a number of customers in the lot who saw it (I'm sure one of them got the plate) but nobody came in and reported it.
