I just got a 9300 and it didn't come with any discs, only an AOL one. I emailed them that I ordered a backup disc of the OS in my config. They responded with the PC Recovery crap. Told them i'll just send back a $1930 laptop, all the discs included the backup Windows MCE showed up in 2 days :)
Or, you could've just ticked the $10 OS CD option when ordering your computer.

Yeah, BUT, it's a crap option when you used to NOT have to PAY extra to get the damn OS CD. You are paying that much for it, it should come with it anyway. Anything to nickle and dime you to death. :disgust:
I can't prove it, but I'm sure you paid for the media previously. Of course, you're not going to get a bill with a line item that said "$10 for WinXP CD," but it certainly was folded into the cost of your system. Dell wasn't sticking those CDs in the boxes out of the goodness of their hearts...

First thing I do when setting up a new DELL is wipe all their pre-installed software off. Once you wade through all the crap the machines usually run alright without a hard drive wipe.

They give you the option of purchasing the media when you buy the PC.

It is like 15 dollars.

Should have done that I guess.

Whats wrong with the option to burn your own cds. They are cutting costs, to make the computers cheaper, and all you need to do is spend 30 minutes burning a couple recover y cds of your own.

The recovery software is probably on a hidden partition. You would have to go into this recovery mode during bootup to reinstall the OS. Of course this recovery is just the same as the one that came with the PC.

Computers for home users :p

Think about it for a minute; Joe Sixpack hasn't the foggiest idea how to reinstall XP, drivers, apps...
The simplest way for him (and for the poor call centres) is a recovery CD that does it all for him.
