I just received my new XFX GTX 285!

I just received my new XFX GTX 285 today! This card is huge! Upgrading from a 8800gt, I didn't realize how big these new generation cards are.

I will share some first impressions once it is installed. My new psu from Newegg should be here in a couple days. I am going from a 4 year old OCZ Powerstream 520W to a Corsair 850TX 850W psu and from 1 x 6-pin pci-e connector to 4 x 6+2 pin pci-e connectors. The new one should hold me over another 4 years.

If I am not mistaken the XFX version comes with FarCry 2, was it the case for yours? I myself am very tempted at the moment to wait just next month and get myself the exact same.

Gonna have the exact same setup as you power supply and grafx card wise in about an hour when my card arrives. Going from a 9800GTX. Wanted to buy a GTX295 but not a SINGLE online vendor in Japan had any in stock.

I hope the card fits in my case.

Yes it does. I bought it from Tigerdirect... the $318 after Live.com cash back deal. The description on the website doesn't show it however. It was a nice surprise, even though I have the game already. Maybe I will give it to a friend.

Yea I just installed a couple XFX vanilla's in SLI last night. They run like champs at 691core 1573 shader, 2600 memory. Very happy about fan performance too. At 40% it's pretty much silent. At 55% it's still very quiet. You'll be impressed! Good psu choice..

Hey, what happened with your 4 ghz overclock on that E7200, Serradifalco?

Well error8 it goes like this... I installed Vista 64-bit with 6 gigs of ram and 4 Ghz flew out the window! 3.8 is the max I can reach now with acceptable voltage and thermals.

My BFG 285 should be at my front door sometime tomorrow! I'm coming from a Radeon X850 XT. The beast in my sig will finally be finished!!

You mean it'll be finished when you oc that 920... 😉

Got my XFX GTX 285 vanilla from TigerDirect on launch day for the $318 after CB deal as well. It is a significant upgrade from my 9800GTX+. Runs up to mid 70's C with fan on auto, mid 60's if I manually set to 55%. Was able to overclock 740/1575/2600 stable so far.

Only problem is that it makes a horrible buzzing noise during ATiTool and 3Dmark testing. Much less noticable for gaming but still there. Coming from the end of board near power regulation. It will qiuet down some if I lower the clocks. Actually considering RMA but don't wanto lose my good overclocker.

What you guys think?

Run a super long DVI cable and put the case as far as you can lol, and preferablly in a cube somewhere or in a closet (with a slight door opening lol).

Its a common issue with high-end video cards (and some PSUs) when frame rates skyrocket, typically in synthetics or loading screens/menus. The power coils/caps vibrate, producing that whining sound. It shouldn't be an issue normal gaming, but if it bothers you enough its should be reason enough to replace or return it. Most likely you'll get another card that has the same issue, although the pitch may be slightly different, or less annoying.

If its not bothering you in normal gaming I wouldn't bother with replacing it. Sounds like you guys are getting some nice OCs on those GTX 285s and some excellent upgrades from older video cards.
