I just realized what lobsters REALLY are.

Cockroaches.

I was watching the Alton Brown show on lobsters... Think about their body structure, what cockroaches look like when squished - they both 'scream' when in pain... the juice on the inside

Gross. I'm ruined as far as eating lobster for awhile, at least, is concerned.

Welcome to the wacky world of crustaceans. The insects of the ocean.

But they taste great grilled and dipped in butter.

Instead of thinking about how gross lobsters are because they are like cockroaches, think about how delicious cockroaches are because they are like lobsters.

mmm.... cockroaches...

If "la cucaracha" ever gets THAT big and meaty, they'll fucking take over the planet...and we'll be having lots of
"I for one welcome our cockroach overlord" posts here on ATOT..."

I guess from the way I was raised (very poor) I associate cockroaches with a disgusting living space... since they seem to be more prevalent in 'dirty' areas where they eat trash and old food.. And I'm pretty sure lobsters crawl along the ocean floor eating all of the trash/dead animals left behind from fish and other things...
..lobsters function pretty much like cockroaches

If that grosses you out prepare to become a vegetarian.

Not sure what makes you say that..

I have 0 problem field dressing a deer and I eat my steak (as long as it's from a reliable butcher/grocery like costco) rare.

I have no problem eating something that has an exoskeleton either..

I guess it just never connected that they look the same, move the same, eat the same thing, and have the same 'mannerisisms'.. I guess the only major difference is being able to breathe in water.

So? Is eating cockroach/lobster any healthier/unhealthier than eating anything else?

Meh, lobster is lobster as far as I'm concerned. Same with shrimp. Who cares what it eats, because whatever those things are eating make them pretty tasty.

These things however...I probably wouldn't touch.

they don't eat the same thing, nor do they look anything alike. Lobsters, in my mind, resemble crabs and scorpions (which are other creatures related to arachnids). Lobsters eat live food unless they have to resort to scavenging to survive. They eat live fish and other crustaceans.

Wouldn't it be great to both have an infestation of lobsters on your kitchen floor and watch the rubes line up for RoachFest at your local Red Crustacean?

those things have claws, F that I say. I also don't eat sea food, so it'd just be a nightmare to have lobsters all up on my floor.
but it would be entertaining, and be a temporary gold farm. 🙂
