Cooking a raw steak in the microwave is blasphemy

Heat it in a skillet on the stove with a little butter. Do not cook it further if you can help it! Just warm it.

No microwave, no BBQ sauce.

a lot of people have no idea how to use a microwave--I think something like 98% of people think it only has one setting (100%).

It's totally fine if you know what you are doing and, in fact, you can actually prepare some fancy meals in the microwave only.

I've never warmed up a steak in a microwave, but I imagine if you do it at 40-60% or something it would come out fine.

I usually just set the oven low, loosely wrap in foil and toss in a little butter. Takes a while, but it beats overcooking it.

Or as Jules said, in the pan with butter.

Yup. My korean gf would have a huge bag of galpi(ribs) that she'd make and the heat them up in the microwave to eat them throughout the week. I live by Koreatown and despite being microwaved, it's up there with the best. Just don't cook them with the microwave.

I was pretty disappointed in the meat quality to start with so not really. That's what I get for trying someone new

Since I like my steak medium rare, what I have left over always warms up nicely in the microwave!!

If you put a steak in the microwave to cook..it will transform into leather!!

slice it up, put it in a sammich with toasted bread and just a little mayo. No excess cooking required.

I agree I always make mine Medium Rare in case I want to reheat any later.

I just make the that way in general.

I still wouldn't microwave anything left, but to each his own :)

I just eat it cold out of the fridge.

I like my steaks seared and extra rare, cold it's closer to carpaccio or tartare in flavor. Delicious.

Microwave ovens have gotten a lot more sophisticated. Our GE model does a great job reheating foods. I've reheated roast beef in it and had it come out pink and steaming, and if not actually as good as when cooked, not too damn bad for leftovers.

Thanks actually. I forgot I had some steak in the fridge. I just sliced it up cold and ate it.

Yeah, one example I can think of is melting chocolate. It actually works quite well with a microwave. I think I've only ever had it seize up once in all the times I've done it.

Inverter versions are the only ones that actually have power levels less than 100%.

The older ones just turn the 100% power on and off at different rates. 50% is 100% power for 50% of the time. There really is no power setting below 100%, you are just changing the duty cycle.

Inverter microwaves actually put out the lower power levels. 50% is actually 50% of the power. A 1000W inverter microwave, set at 50% power, is actually running as a 500W microwave.

The inverter types have really good control of the heating of the food.
