I JUST RAN 10 MILES!!!

I have never run that far before in my life. My previous records were 7 miles, and for one hour. I was going to go for 50 minutes today, but got to a half hour and felt great, so I was like, screw it, go to an hour. My knees felt like they had lead in them, and my feet had minor blisters, but the weirdest thing was happening: I was BARELY sweating, my heart wasn't even pumping hard, and I wasn't out of breath at all. I got to an hour and felt great still so I went to 70 minutes, then 75. I realized then that I was 25 minutes away from 10 miles. So I buckled down and did it! At the end I really felt like I could've gone for 2 more miles, hell, 5 more even. I was not tired in the least. My knees/feet/ankles weren't any worse than they were at the 30 minute mark, I was still barely sweating (my shirt was dry after hanging up at home for like 10 minutes), heart rate was barely elevated, and I wasn't breathing hard. I think this is the first time in my life that my mind/heart/lungs outlasted my body, because my body was definitely sorer and more taxed than any of those things, even if for the most part I'm not in any pain or discomfort. Usually when I'm lifting i fail mentally, or just exhaust my Oxygen supply, or my heart can't beat fast enough to pump my blood quickly enough. This was an absolutely awesome feeling. I actually did a full abs session after I was so untired!
I get these days every now and then (I guess everyone does) where I'm just at an absolute peak physically or cardiovascularly or whatever. I love it. I still remember the first time I ran for 60 minutes. I did 30, 35, got to 40 and figured F it, go for 60. I had never done that before, but once I did it once, I found I did it a few times per week no problem.

I posted about it in my workoutjournal (basically the same thing I wrote here)

Congrats, that's huge! It's awesome reaching that point in your conditioning where you can run at 6-7mph essentially indefinitely, or at least until something starts hurting (like a blister, cramp, knee, hip, etc). The furthest I've done is a 15k (~9.3 miles) but I've been really curious to see if I could handle a half marathon...

I was thinking half marathon when I was running.

But you're absolutely right, it feels great to be at the point where I can handle that speed in perpetuity, until I get bored really

Every once in a while you have a really good day where you feel like you can do anything...sounds like you had one of those days. (Where the intangibles went in your favor)

Now doing it on a consistent basis...that's a different thing.

Yep, I've had those days while training for my first half marathon a few months ago...most of the time I'd be able to run the last 5 miles or so at a pretty quick pace after the runner's high kicked in. It's a great feeling, almost like you're invincible 🙂

Awesome DomS! 10 miles is my next target. I've done 8, 10 shouldn't be unattainable. Are you training for a long road race or is this just for your own satisfaction?

Congrats!

treadmill....Boston's icy right now

Where do you live exactly? I'm still running outside along the Charles. The Memorial Drive side and Storrow/Boston side have some icy/snowy spots but no big deal.

The loop around the Museum of Science to the Elliot Bridge/Mt Auburn Hospital is 10 miles, fwiw.

Runner's High -- gotta love it! Congrats!

I'm training for a marathon right now. I've done a half already, and run that distance fairly regularly. Really, it's about mental discipline after you can physically run 13-14 miles comfortably for a while. If only I could induce that feeling legally on race day!

That's great, way longer than almost anybody ever runs in their life on one stint (think to your family, how many family members have ever done that?). Throwing an extra mile or two on now to the distance becomes quite easy. Going from 10 to 20 miles is far easier than 0 to 10 🙂

Congrats

Haha, my thoughts exactly. I would keel over from boredom!

Wow def. a kudos to you. I get so bored when i run but it does help. granted i top out at 1 mile haha.....

Congrats! The most I've done is about 5 miles on a treadmill. I get so bored on the treadmill to do more than 5 miles. What were you listening to? Cause I need whatever you were listening to!

I'm going to try for an 8 miler on a treadmill tomorrow morning, previous longest treadmill run is 7.2 miles. I don't listen to anything while I run, but I may have to start. An hour or more on the treadmill may be intolerable otherwise...

Gosh, five minutes on the treadmill would drive me nuts. I'm running outside tomorrow even if it's in the single digits.
