I just played Half-Life 2 for 5 hours...

Best. Game. Ever.

Three of my friends watched me play for the first four hours. They were enthralled simply watching. Valve has raised the bar so high that I don't know if it can go any higher.

Hehe, these are only my initial impressions as I haven't beaten the game yet (got to about the end of 6 of 15 chapters), but I can't imagine it getting bad. When I look back on it, I bet Ravenholm will be the weak point of the game for me, but we'll see. 🙂 Even so, it was still fun, if for no other reason than it takes slightly different way of thinking.

*MINOR SPOILER*

* Pick up that can and put it in the garbage!
*
* lol My friends and I were floored when that happened. It was such a good touch.

*END MINOR SPOILER*

Come to think of it, the game is amazingly full of good touches. The voice acting is superb and there's so much dialogue that it never sounds repetitive or canned. Frankly, it's everything I hoped it would be, which is saying quite a bit. 🙂

I am not quite as far as you, but I am completely satisfied thus far

the load times seem a bit too long - though I'm guessing that is more of a first-time played issue...

loved the trash can part too!

I was completely panic-stricken looking out the window in that appt bldg as they were closing in!

Ditto.

The game is awesome for me so far - probably the most immserive game I've ever played. I'm at the part where you're cruising along in your first vehicle and it just rocks.

I really need some help. I'm at the end of the canals section I think (d_canals end or something).
Description of the place follows, possible spoilers.

I've go through the headcraps area, blah blah, past the boathouse type thing, under the bridge where the guy throws things off, and now I'm trying to get across the hazardous waste, but I can't make it without dying.
Andone know how the hell to get across?

kudos valve, seriously

 agreed, last time the head crabs were annoying now these things... oh and minor annoying one is the thing that takes your picture, because of the flash.

Can anyone tell me how the surround sound in this game works? Does it offer digital or just analog output to your speakers? How would I enable surround?

had my first crash of the game in ravenholm. Memory addressing error.

The game is starting to piss me off though in places. Dont get me wrong, the eye candy is great, the air boat thing was seriously waaaay too long though, but the part I hate is when levels load, the stuttering sound for 10 seconds or so is just flat out annoying.

And the save game pics are mostly distorted and corrupted in the save game menu

Anyone else getting way too long Loading times? I have a Athlon XP 3200+ and it still take close to a minute to load the next map in some cases. Half-life 1 take about 2 seconds. Standing there staring at Alex for a minute before the door to the lab opens way just too long. Perhaps I need to benchmark my disks to see if there is something wrong.

It isn't the CPU that affects loading time so much as the hard drive speed and trasfer rate to memory.

I agree about the airboat.
Took me a while to find it though, I went straight past it first time 🙁

I've just arrived at Ravenholm, and I gave up because it looked too scary.
I was sitting in the first area just out of the tunnel, admiring the scenery, and suddenly I notice a zombie lurching towards me 🙁

I have a 2100 and its averagng about 30 seoncds (i timed it)

Damn you people, I don't have 60 bucks to go out and purchase this game! Stop making me want it so badly.

I can drive that air boat and look at the environment/water all day long. 🙂

But, I just got the gravity gun, so next...

man, I just got a new vid card and a heatsink, but i don't want to put them in yet because i want to play!

My steam account is taking REALLY long to load, this happen to anyone else?

I threw a glass bottle at one of the gaurds at the train station.. he lit his boton up and ran after me. Luckily everyone sleeps in the main part of my house cause i litterally yelled "oh ****!" when he came after me. After a long day of work and school, HL2 messed with me. kudos to them for making me jump in the first 5 minutes and it was my own fault.

I found it a tad unrealistic when i rammed a huge cinder block onto the back side of a guards head and he turned around like wtf, started beating the crap outta me.. he should have been dead!

It's a b!tch. I'm stuck half way through 🙁 I'm supposed to be heading to the church, but the guy tells me I went the wrong way, and I don't know how to go the right way 🙁

I just beat Ravenholm, it was really weird. It's like it went from 1984 straight into Dawn of the Dead. Not that it was bad, its just crazy how they mixed up the styles of gameplay and genres (scifi, driving, horror, hopefully more🙂 ) Freakin' great.

The airboat rocks. Damn was it ever fun ripping that thing along the canal... missiles coming after me, dudes shooting kicking up spray in the water...

Also I noticed something really cool. I had problems with one of the maps (kept crashing... just had to re-download). I saved just before the map change (in the train car with the alien dude and your buddy). The alien says some stuff to you... but it wasn't the same every time. Super cool.

Oh and this DEFINITELY has replay value.
