I just ordered my new PC!!!! (Rate it)

Asus P4T533-C Motherboard (w/int Intel NIC)
Pentium 4 1.6A Ghz
Antec 1080B Case with 430 Watt True Power PSU
Toshiba DVD Drive w/black bezel
Western Digital 120GB Special Edition Hard Drive
Black Alps Floppy
Sound Blaster Audigy Card
Gainward GeForce 4 Ti4200 w/TV Out+nView+VIVO
(2) 256 MB Samsung 16 Device RDRAM
HP 9500i CD-RW(12x8x32x)
Compaq FS740 Flat Tube Monitor(I got this for $10 yesterday, its really nice for the price--check f@twallet if you want one)
Dell 17in for a second monitor.

All for $1100.....what do u think?

EDIT: I left a few components out🙂

I'd give you a 10 if that's PC1066 RDRAM you're using. Otherwise, if you are using PC800, I'd rate it a 9. Good looking system.

Hmm, well Jack Burton, giving his rig a 9 just because it's using PC800 is like giving a 1.6A a 5 because it gets beat by a 1600+. 16 device RDRAM sticks have a 90% chance to hit PC1066 spec, like 1.6As and hitting the 2.133 barrier. Besides that, it all looks good. The 1200JB is one heck of a drive, and that Gainward Ti4200 will best my Radeon8500 in alot of areas.. (Except for 2d output and DVD playback)

9.5 out of 10.

I give you a 7 cause I think you just limited your potentail oc with that 1.6....I have tested both more raw cpu power and more memory bandwidth and I often found in my apps I run...it is slower....

Maybe Intel has figured this out as wella s they have moved more and more to the ddr platform...Bandwidth looks great in quake3 and some business app benchmarks, but I don't think it always materializes. Do you think that ram and board will allow you to do 166fsb???

I'm giving him a 9 for using PC800 because when you buy a P4 1.6A you are normally buying it to overclock with a high FSB. As you said, 16 device PC800 has a 90% success rate of hitting PC1066 speeds (133MHz FSB). Well, the P4 1.6A normally goes was beyond 2.1GHz (you have a good chance of hitting 2.4GHz), but you have a good chance of your PC800 holding you back from the 2.4GHz+ mark. With PC1066, 133MHz FSB is default, and PC1200 speeds shouldn't be a problem given your P4 can handle the higher clock speed.

That is why I give him a 9 for using PC800. Happy with my explanation? 😉

HOLD THE PRESS! I just took a look at the new Asus P4T533 board. This thing freakin' rocks! You get the board AND 512MB of RIMM4200 memory for $300!!! AWESOME DEAL! Shoot, 512MB of PC1066 sells for ~$300 by itself!! I'd see if you can swap out that board and memory if you still can, and see if your retailer carries the P4T533 yet. If you decide to stick with your current system, it's still very nice. 😉

well...i ordered from newegg...whats the difference between the P4T533-C and the P4T533? Just the RAM? btw newegg doesnt have the P4T533 do u know where i can find this board?

Dude, I'm sorry. I don't think the board is out yet. I just saw a review and assumed it was out. It should be out VERY soon, but go a head and keep your setup. My only suggestion would be to get PC1066, but it is pretty steep now. So if you can't afford it, or can't justify the cost, go a head with your setup. Just know that your memory (PC800) will probably be what keeps you back from a high overclock with your P4 1.6A. If you'll be happy with a ~2.1GHz overclock, then your system will be fine. 😉

Sorry man, I didn't answer your question. The P4T533-C uses dual channel RDRAM (16bit), the P4T533 uses single channel RDRAM (32bit). Basically, you only need to install one RIMM4200 (533MHz FSB) stick instead of using two PC800 or PC1066 sticks. That is not such a big deal as I could care less if I need to install one or two sticks. The COOL thing is, this board looks like it is going to sell for about $300 which includes a 512MB RIMM4200 stick!!!. Like I said, that is an AWESOME deal considering PC1066 is going for $175 per 256Mb stick at googlegear!!

7

In my opinion, no computer can get a good 9 or 10 until its been overclocked to its max, moded with lights and a case window and a good set of klipsh 5.1 speakers

6.5

no cd-burner
audigy (ick, TBSC forever!)
compaq p910 whips that monitor and was $243 shipped at CDW for awhile.
it probably has a nic but i'm a 3com fan

Honestly I give it a 6.5. IMO the 1.6A isn't all that fast of a CPU, only good for o/c to a really good speed range where you are limiting yourself by using RDRAM instead of DDR, which many people have stated above.

BTW: a perfect 10 would of have been with the P4 2.53 with PC1066 RDRAM, Ti4600, etc. really loaded system.

But compared to my system, I'll still take yours 🙂

I rate it a 8

17" monitor? 19" minimum nowadays IMO.

Why not get the P4 1.8A for like $20 more?

and the worst offender...

HP CD burner!!!!

Stay far, far away from HP burners. Yes, there are some that work fine, but when you get a bad model, WHOA BOY...LOOK OUT!
I will not buy any cd burners other than Lite-On, Plextor, and Teac, because they are ALWAYS recommended. And after my nightmares with HP cd burners. I've never seen anyone recommend a HP burner. Some people are indifferent, but they never recommend...

In my experience HP has been fairly good with CD burners in the 9000+ series. I would not touch any model below that.
That is because all (AFAIK) of their drives are just rebranded versions of some other companies kit. The 9000s are supposed
to be Sony drives internally (that should include the 9500i).

However, last I checked HP was getting out of distribution of CD-RW drives, and slowly moving over to DVD+RW. (which is based on
a rebranded Ricoh drive).

nice............................... dammit... now i'm number 2. Oh well... it was nice while it lasted. i give it a 1. JK...... 9
