<< The mounting system for the Orbs requires a kind of "push and twist" method. Most probably, you will crack the die of your CPU by doing this. This is a common occurance, unfortunately and you read about it at least once a week here on this forum. You can get a better CPU HSF for less $$$. GlobalWin FOP32-1 is one good idea. >>

Thats revision 1 of the orbs.
Newer ones (rev2) use a standard clip mounting system.

They still suck, but make it much safer to install your HSF.

No prob MikeyD :)

Yah the orbs have never been good. They look nice but suck pretty bad. For a p3 or duron system, they will do a semi decent job (i.e. should work at default or slight OC) but it will melt down if you put it on a faster proc. There are many many many good HSFs out there.

I wanted a really good HSF that preforms within 2-3C of the top end (at the time), but is pretty quiet, so I got a Glaciator.
Pros: Keeps my pro under 45C even with a 40% overclock
Fairly QUiet
No tool needed install

Con:
Still loud, its only part of my computer I can hear. Good think my Antex case dampens it
Heavy, you have to remove HSF if you want to (safely) move your case around.
Not AMD approved (but who cares for their personal box)

They just aren't as good as other options that are available. The Globalwin line is pretty good with the CAK38 being top of the line, but they come with that loud delta, so if that is going to be a problem consider the FOP32-I or look at the Gladiator or SVC Golden Gate where you can get a different fan. We're just trying to look out for you and make sure your CPU temps stay nice and cool.

Well thanks for looking out for me, I just phoned the place, and they said that they were out of orbs anyways, I am not sure what exactly they said they were sending me instead.

<< Many people like myself prefer the soundblaster live cards. >>

Personally, I think the gtxp blows away the sblive cards. It has better compatibility in win2k, the rack that comes with it is awesome, and it just plain sounds better.
