Still doesn't make any sense to pay $600 for a Moto X over a $250 Nexus 4...
Anyone recommending a $250 Nexus 4 over a $600 Moto X is most certainly not a specs junkie.

oh i fully admit this doesnt make sense at least on that sort of level. logically for the money compared to the nexus 4 its a terrible idea. theres no way the moto x is rationally over twice the value the nexus 4 is. honestly i dont think ANY phone logically compares well to the nexus 4. i mean an HTC one, or a S4 would be pretty hard to justify vs a nexus 4 too, probably less hard, but still.

i think if they were both $300 most of us would choose the moto x right? so i guess its sort of like buying say i don't know a land rover evoque over say a rav 4 or a ford escape or something. it makes no sense at all for the money or value wise. no sense except if you dont care too much about the cost.

So apparently Motorola screwed up the shipping of these. First batches didn't go out until Thursday night so no one gets them until Monday. Their order system is terrible about updates too so a bunch of people complained

saw on the motorola.com moto-x forums where a bunch of us were complaining about the delayed shipment that one guy got his.

he said, it has no carrier branding and no carrier apps. so basically if there was a google play edition i'd figure it would basically be this phone

so my moto x arrived.

took them 2 days late to ship... but i got free SKIP tags i guess (even though this isn ta motomaker one).

phone is blazingly fast. i mean my droid razr m in theory isn't that much slower on paper, but this is just insanely fast. coworker has a htc one and this at least feels faster.

the XT1053 t-mobile edition has no carrier branding, and no carrier apps. so no wifi calling, but no bloat at all. oddly it came with a white charger, and its a black phone. dont know if taht was a mistake.

That's more down to carrier politics than it is Motorola.

yeah i think that might be it.

when i first got the phone google wallet said it was incompatible. yesterday after that google wallet update it started allowing install.

so maybe the nfc tap wont work. honestly i had google wallet on a galaxy nexus before and i just didnt think it gave me much value, so i really dont care too much. i think the hardware supports google wallet fine, but i think google play knows what carrier you are on when you log in, so it disables / enables features based on that.

oh well.

It is indeed, but as I originally said, T-Mobile doesn't seem very involved with the sales of this phone, so I was hoping they would treat it like my Nexus 4, which is able to use tap to pay even though I'm on T-Mobile.

I got the Moto X a month ago from AT&T. I went to the store and was choosing between the Moto X and the S4. In terms of performance, I did not notice a difference between the two in terms of web surfing, Youtube, etc. I did like the smaller size of the Moto X. My work gives me a discount so I got $60 off the price of the phone which basically put in a price range that I think most people felt was more suitable.

I also got the phone in like two days or so. Much faster than the original quote. When I ordered the phone via Motorola's custom thingamijgger, it did say that they had a phone in the configuration I wanted so that may explain the promptness of delivery.

Usagewise, it's been great. I only recharge the phone nightly. The other day was when I almost ran out of power before I plugged it in. I use it to listen to podcasts in the morning on Youtube, used it for various Wifi data stuff, used it for GPS to drive into downtown and then my doctor's appointment ran very late so I spent a couple hours browsing Reddit and stuff.

Speed is good, I haven't ran into anything that made me feel like I would regret it over the S4 and I don't see any reason why the experience will change in a couple of years.

The voice feature is nice for GPS because then I can just say an address instead of typing it out. It does save time then. It integrates a lot with your Google account. For example, I will search up the directions to get somewhere on the internet using Google. If I pick up my phone then it will automatically have the same trip. It will say how long it will take and with a press of my finger bring it up on GPS. So that's nice.

The notifications work well. It tells you what app has sent the notification and if it is an e-mail I can see the subject. I generally can tell with certainty about whether or not I want to wake up my phone.

I have only two complaints. The first is that the AT&T network is rather slow in my area despite being 4G LTE. It took me a half hour the other day on 4G to send a 10 MB email in gmail. The second is that sometimes it takes a while for the GPS to get situated which is annoying when I want to get going. This may just be the fault of the network though.

What is the consensus on battery life? I saw mixed reports - some say it's worse than the N4 and some say otherwise. Personally I am more than fine with the N4 level of battery life.

And when the heck will wooden versions be out? I want to see a phone made out of wood!

ive never had a nexus 4 , but heard the battery life on it is terrible.

i've had the moto x for 3 days now.

battery life is pretty good. i'd say its better than my last phone which wa sa razr M. easily will lasts a whole day and i'm a heavier user than most.

Can you comment on the speaker quality?

I'm getting annoyed with the delays from HTC pushing the 4.2.2 update for my One. Been considering softmodding to the GPe model.

I'm on GPe/Sense 5 dual boot using MoDaCo.SWITCH ROM. I highly recommend it, it's stable and a good way to be on 4.2.2 and try both Sense and near-stock Android.

the speaker on this but it is louder at max than the razr m by a good amount. but its about what you'd expect from "a cellphone". its your typical mono back facing speaker (that little line of dots onthe back near the moto logo)

coworker got an HTC One about 3 weeks and we've spent a lot of time comparing them as he constantly strokes its metal body. and the htc one speakers are bar none the best phone speakers you can buy. also i'd have to say these are the 2 best android phones on the market (i'd probably say the 1020 which another coworker has and the 5S would obviously be the other 2 phones worth getting imho)

if you want a phone with good speakers i'd say that would be a lot better than the moto x's im not saying the moto x has bad phone speakers, they just arent stereo or as big or nice as the htc one.
