I can't wait for it to be released! I ordered it from Amazon, which didn't have a release date listed, but Newegg says 11/30/09.

I almost pulled the trigger on a Motorola Droid.... but my local telco, Cincinnati Bell, has some promotion where you "don't have to pay for the internet twice". That is, if you purchase DSL through them (which I have had for the past ~8 years), you get free internet on your smart phone. So basically, it boils down to $40/mo for DSL/data and $30 for 500 minutes. Or I could simply not pay for voice at all on the n900 and pay nothing more than I already am for my DSL.

Anyone else waiting for their n900? We can start a super secret club. I've had the n810 for over an year and love the little thing to death.

Too many negatives which are big for the price.
 
I've owned a few of the Nokia Internet Tablets (N700 and N800). They're cool little devices, but not much more capable than a good smartphone, so it didn't really make sense having both. For me the perfect combo is a smartphone when you just want something that can fit in a pocket, and then a netbook when you're traveling and want a bit more screen and power than a handheld device offers.
 
I would like one, but I can't justify it.. hell I can't justify that kind of cash on a laptop.

I have some sort of aversion to paying more than $200 for something I'm likely to drop on several occasions.



I've got an old Nokia 770 around. Pretty cool put lacking in horsepower and keyboard.. N900 has all that and more.
 
I dabbled in the Maemo codebase and own a Nokia N770, and I wouldn't ever recommend that a non-developer type purchase one to use as their day-to-day phone. It's a neat but very incomplete platform that ultimately requires at least an intermediate level of knowledge in Linux to use.
 
Picked up a Samsung Moment instead of the droid. All of my friends with Droid phones and many with iPhones (I carry a Tour, iPhone, and the Moment at all times - work required, I use all of them and know all the pros and cons) are all pretty jealous.

The Moment is far superior to the Droid specifically due to the keyboard being actual keys and not one big long piece of perforated plastic.

Only downside to the Android phones so far (and I've spent large amounts of time using the HTC Hero, the Samsung Moment, and the Motorola Droid - so I've been exposed to 1.5, 1.6, and 2.0 respectively) are the abysmal battery life. I sometimes leave work and without even using the phone am yellow-red bar by the time I go to bed.

Once the power consumption issues are addressed I can say with all seriousness that Android is a definitive iPhone killer.

I doubt they're going to be jealous of you not being able to make calls indoors on the crappy ATT/T Mobile network* 😀
