I just ordered a Dell Mini 9

Good luck with that. I ordered a refurb from their outlet store and it was a mess. They ended up canceling the order for no reason. In the end I was glad.
Now I've got an Acer and while it might not be as nice, at least I have it in my hands.

So which is best?

I want a small laptop and I want it to run XP probably.

If you want to mod a netbook, the Dells are great, if you want something functional out of the box, buy an Acer or Asus with the 160GB HD.

I don't mind the screen as much as I mind the keyboard. Put the mini 9 in a 12.1 inch frame and include a full sized keyboard.

i bought a mini 9 in the outlet, came with 512mb and the 64gb ssd, bluetooth, webcam and ubuntu for 299. I installed leopard on it, and ilife, and sold it for almost 500 bucks.
they really make great little apple netbooks, and you don't have to hack anything, it all works fine once you install leopard. check out mydellmini.com, great website with a lot of good stuff.

I'm not sure is the keyboard will bother me or not. I have small fingers so hopefully it won't be too bad. Anyone have a link for the keyboard mod?

I ordered mine last month and just got it in the mail couple of days ago. So far it's a sweet laptop. Quiet as hell. I ordered 512mb ram, but they sent me 1gb (looks like they changed their site also to show 1gb is the least included). I also ordered a 32gb ssd drive.

Next step, install osx. Already did it on my friend's dell mini and it works flawlessly.

I ordered a Mini 10 from the outlet yesterday. $289 for the 1.6Ghz Atom 1Gb RAM and 160GB HDD can't wait till it gets here. I figure I can use it as a email/web tool at starbucks and as a diagnostic tool at work. If I don't like I can sell it for what I got it for.

I had never even considered installing OSX on it... but I can't think of a good reason why not to.

I was going to install Ubuntu, but OS-X sounds way more tempting. Would it run well? 1.6GHz Atom / 2GB RAM / 32GB Runcore SSD. How much space does the OS take up?

Mine came with Ubuntu installed. I haven't used linux in a couple of years, but I like this distro so far.

Here's a tutorial on installing osx: link.

Also these forums have a whole section on this also: link
