Went to the NAMM show in Indianapolis this afternoon and was looking at the PRS room when Paul came up behind me and asked me what I thought about the guitar I was looking at. It took me a few seconds to process who he was.. but he was like "Hi, I'm Paul, nice to meet you." I told him I've owned two of his guitars and to the day love every second it's in my hands. He was extremely nice and was asking me if there was anything he could do for me, or if I needed anything for my guitar. I was like "yeah, I'll take that 10 grand model over there." We laughed about it for a few minutes and then he wanted to talk guitars with me.

We talked shop for a few minutes, he was asking what I didn't like and what I liked about his models, we chatted about pickups and what he's into on his own models, and he asked me a lot of questions about the mod I did to my guitar. He was actually pretty interested in the fact that I modded the guitar but he said he'd have to try out that combination himself.. haha.

We then bullsh!tted about the Gibson/PRS lawsuit and he gave me some interesting info about the case that I haven't read anywhere online. After we were done he gave me a really nice black leather guitar strap with his signature on it and engraved bird inlays going up the front (their logo) and he gave me a bunch of random trinkets, picks, guitar polish, cloths, and a CD of him playing all the different kinds of models they offer.

Afterwords I got to hear him play a live set right in front of us, he just walked over and grabbed a random guitar off the wall, he was a riot the whole time saying sh!t like... "man if only I had a guitar to play... oh wait these are all mine, nevermind!"

He said lots of other hilarious stuff about this other guitarist that was there, I didn't catch his name but he fvcking blew me away.. he was like "Man that riff was fvckin STUPID GOOD!" and other random stuff, just having a good time with everyone.

He was like one of the most down to earth people I've ever met, especially in that business, he thanked me for coming by and spending time with him... I'm still just in awe of how much of a nice guy he was.

Anyway 99% of you probably don't give a fvck but here's to those who know who PRS is, and that he's an awesome person.

 I love music enough to own over 1,000 CDs but don't play anything myself.

Nice anecdote about a man who's probably supplied guitars to at least some of my favorite artists.

I saw him at a guest appearance at a Santana concern in MD and he spoke at my HS graduation a few years before I graduated, unfortunately the speech was no good but it was cool he came.

Yeah the show was great, people were selling things way below retail, at dealer cost!

You should have told him to get rid of the heel and go back to the old ways and stop using those cheap Korean switches and pots.

I haven't heard about the Gibson/PRS lawsuit.

That would be pretty cool to run into a guy like that.

That's awesome.

I really need to learn how to play my guitar and bass. I've had them for years but I've never really put my mind to it.

It was Gibson suing PRS over their 'singlecut' model. Google for PRS singlecut. They said it looks too much like a Les Paul..

I can google and find at least 10 guitar companies making AN EXACT fvcking copy of the Les Paul and Gibson didn't have a problem with them. They went after PRS because they're a big player and they are upset that they make better guitars than Gibson has in the last 30 years.

Actually Gibson has been sue happy as long as I can remember. Some they win some they loose. I have a couple of the Ibanez lawsuit models. Yamaha, Tokai also got hit by Gibson.

i would have asked him why his guitars are so soul-less, personality-less, and cold.

Fender/Gibson > PRS.

but it's still cool that you got to meet him. :)

edit: in the recording engineering field, the PRS/Mesa Boogie combination is probably the single most despised and loathed sound they are forced to mic. on forums, they fill entire threads with how much the tone sucks, using words and phrases not repeatable on this family-friendly forum.

It may have something to do with guy playing them. Santana sounds soulless to you?
