I was eating a kit kat and then I chewed on something that was hard. I just thought I got a stale wafer in the candy so I spit it out. Then 1 mionute later I realized that half of my molar from the top left crumbled. WTF. I want my tooth back. My freakin dentist is backed up until april 11th (thats when I have my appointment. Maybe I can schedule an emergency appointment.

get to one quickly. I had a filling fall out and it got painful.... FAST

Call your dentist's office. More than likely they'll have an emergency number on the answering machine message (or an answering service who will get a hold of the Dr. for you).

Losing half a tooth is not something you want to let go. You should get it taken care of tomorrow if possible and Monday at the latest. The longer you let it go, the greater the chances that they'll have to pull the whole tooth.

Plus, it's going to start really hurting if it hasn't already.

<< Lesson Learned: Don't chew Kit-Kat while eating it. >>

I think the lesson learned is lay off the kit-kat bars. Sweets rot your teeth.

I've chipped a tooth twice in the past six months and both times I was able to get an appointment that day or the next. The receptionist took my name and called me when a cancellation came in. If you can't get an emergency appt, see if they can put you on a list to call if someone doesn't show up.

I've got a filling in that tiooth does it really matter?

I lost the white part of the tooth. It doesn't go past the gums.

ok I just called. They have some sort of answering service. And she just blew me off and told me to call back on monday.

I don't have any of it, I spit it out when I thought it was just stale candy.

What is a crown?

I just E-mailed another dentist in my town and maybe I can get an appointment tomorrow.

This is right on from what I remember of having one done. From a google search:

"The traditional crown procedure begins with the administration of a local anesthetic to the patient to numb the area so the dentist can prepare the tooth by removing the decayed area. When the preparation is complete, an impression is made by the dentist to obtain a mold of the area that needs to be restored. The patient is then fitted with a temporary crown and sent home. The impression is sent to a dental laboratory, where a technician hand-makes a restoration. About two weeks later, the patient returns, the temporary is then removed and the lab-fabricated crown is placed when the patient returns."

Basically they grind down the rest of your tooth as much as possible, and attach a fake tooth onto whatever is left.

that doesn't sound too comfortable. I have been avoiding my dentist for the past 2 years because I wanted to give my wisdom teeth a chance to grow out (It appears that I have room in my jaw for them). I guess I'll have to be more viligent in taking care of my teeth now.

Oh my, I ate some licorice and broke my tooth. Within a few days the pain was so intense, the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. Had to have a 2 day root canal. Don't wait until April, find someone, anyone to look at it. Good luck.

Don't want to alarm you, but, last I heard when you have body parts falling off, it might be a diesease called leprosy.

Just kidding, It's happened to me once too. I must have got lucky, no pain no problem. Just got used to it.
