3 PC's in our house. I'm building a 4th SFF for college. All AMD Athlon based. Why? Performance, price, overclocking. If I could get a 2.8C for $80 on the other hand.... ;)

I have a black internal Mitsumi combo floppy drive/7-in-1 card reader...it's just great. It's even cooler because when you eject a floppy disk, it SHOOTS it out lol.

AMD's chips seem more snappy when it comes to general usage.

When I go to my cousin's house, I'm so damn impatient for IE to load up or any other program. It takes a good 5 seconds extra to load up (he has a 2.6ghz 533fsb). My AMD 2600+ just feels faster, even if it's not in benchmarks.

I paid like $65 for a 1700+ chip that runs at 2.3GHz or more, of course I like AMD better :D

muahaha

yeah~ there is no reason beyond AMD that attracts me to them beyond price/preformance. Intel isn't any more stable, and it preforms well

but AMD is just soooo nice when it comes to preformance/cost.

i agree, if intel one day pumps out more frames for less, ill switch to that, but ever since the duron 600 @ 1000.... AMD has won for me as far as price/performance

I don't like AMD better per say. I just can't afford Intel CPUs, plain and simple. As well, I use my system for general usage applications and gaming. AMD's CPUs do just fine in this area in terms of performance.

my SFF box is mobile athlon 2400 based, running rock solid @2.12 (could go higher if i replace the IGP i suppose).

here is a breakdown :
athlon mobile 2400 : $77 shipped
soyo K7VME : $8.50 s/h after $50 rebate
Thermalright ALX-800 + 92mm panaflo : roughly $25 after shiping

try beating this with intel :D

video encoding, but thanks to our friends at nvidia for putting a video encoder chip on their new graphics cards, intel will soon be losing one of their few remaining advantages

Blasphemy! You can't say that in this thread!

OK yeah they're faster at video encoding.

AMD chip is going to be burning hot also. AMD is having major heat issues trying to go 90nm, just like Intel. Intel PressHot will soon have company from AMD. At this rate watercooling will be standard cooling and these cases are going to have built-in AC.

My last Intel chip was 286. From 386 on, I've been AMD and Cyrix user. Some of early AMD and Cyrix chips and chipset were really bad. AMD has come long ways.

Yes, but do you "just like AMD better"? That, my friend is the question of the day it seems.

In any event, the grand master architect of the General Hardware Forums is off to bed now. No more parodies of parodies. I hereby copyright the saying "I just like ____ better". 'nuff said, and the AT Forums can return to their normal state now. It's been fun. :p
