Is there anyone here that was aware that we have a "Anti-Semitism Czar"? I sure didn't. Also, is there a really big need for this?

Appointment of monitor adds teeth
to the fight against anti-Semitism
By Ron Kampeas
May 17, 2006

Longer article that I don't want to create an account to read.

WASHINGTON, May 17 (JTA) ? The U.S. State Department just added a set of teeth to its fledgling office monitoring anti-Semitism.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Wednesday named Gregg Rickman, a dogged investigator who has tracked the Swiss banks? role in the Holocaust, as the first special envoy for monitoring and combating anti-Semitism around the world.

Jewish leaders unanimously agreed that the appointment would push the office monitoring anti-Semitism, in existence barely 18 months, to the department?s front burner.

?It creates a strong point person that will be able to coordinate all the different parts of our government that deal with anti-Semitism,? said Mark Levin.

Probably not, a little odd, and kind of a dumb precedent IMO.

Ironically, if there was an "anti-racism czar" conservatives would probably be pitching a fit saying its not the place for govt. I agree, but I also dont think we need an "anti- anti anything" czar

Frackal is spot on...I don't see how this should have any point in the government.

But assuming that we need one (whatever the hell they will end up doing)...technically it should simply be "anti racism" as I don't see a specific group of people needs to be focused on

Well-------if we are going to have a antisematism czar---why not a antigay czar--or an anti-anthist czar.--or better yet just hold our politicians from bashing any minority.

feel free however to express your dissatisfaction with thier performance.

Yeah, I would, but the OMB is clearly living in a fantasy world. This, from the top of their site, explains it all: "MEETING THE PRIORITIES OF THE NATION WHILE ACHIEVING SPENDING RESTRAINT"

OMG! "Spending restraint?" I'd hate to see when Congress and the President go on a bender.

If the point is to focus efforts to recover money from various foreign banks, this might make sense. Such a position might more than pay for itself.

How so? If their is any money recovered, it would go directly to the decendants of those that were affected directly by the holocaust. None of that would benefit the US at all.
