hello all
i know not a lot of people play with duron since all have move on to XP. however i decided to pickup a k7s5a + duron750 one month ago.
its been working great until last night. i receive my conductive pen from radio shack. with this new toy in hand, i start to trace the L7 bridge. bump the fsb
to 133 and thinking it will be a easy boost of speed. my first problem was the 24cfm fan is too weak to handle the 1.85v, this result in frozen in unreal flyby.
( yes, i still play unreal when i cant get online).
without thinking i start to replace the 24cfm fan with 40 cfm (47dbs) ys-tech fan while everything still mount in the case. i mean, cpu and golden gate still mount on the k7s5a. it have help my 1.0gig to pass through 10 unreal flyby. happy with my result, i went to bed.
today i wake up to the noise of ys-tech fan. i decided to buy alpha 8045 to help with the noise. in the mean time i will put in 24cfm fan and clock down the duron to 750.
as before i start to take out the ys-tech fan while everything still mount on the board. 🙁 change the slower fan, clock speed back down to 750 and start booting
the system to check my email. system got hand at splash screen. reboot but got registry error after that. took out the golden gate
and duron 750 to reapply a new layer of ASII thinking i have it to thick. needless to say, i found a tiny tringle thingie next to my cpu core.
i was afraid to chipped the core so i leave everything mounted while i change the fan. appearly this have done more bad then good.
just thought this is good place to bid farewell to my little engine that could. 🙁 and move on the its bigger brother athlon MP.
now the question, i will still use k7s5a for my setup. do i still link the L7 bridge if i need more voltage. want to make sure i dont kill another chip through
carelessness.
thanks
