I just had my first solo flight today! Any other Anandtech pilots out there?

I used to be. I cant get a medical anymore...hell, I cant even get myself in an airplane anymore.

Wha did you solo in?

cool, i dropped my flight training after my first solo. A guy i work with got his PPL soon after i dropped it, so he and I go flying just about every weekend. we normally fly a Cherokee.

I was flying a diamond Katana 100 for the first part of my training...but its broken so I switched to a cessna 152 a couple weeks ago, and thats what I'll be flying from now on.

I was pretty nervous before I took off, but once I got into the air it was great, not to mention that getting my 200 pound instructor out of the plane really helped performance. Its a pretty fast climber with just 1 person inside.

Nothing like the kick of an afterburner leaving your stomach behind.

It was great, one of the most exciting things I've ever done.

Congrats

I used to fly (taking lessons) back was able to afford to. Never got my License though.

Just saw News about personal Helicopter today, $50,000 No License needed since it is under 350 lbs.

Air Scooter

Congrats! I remember my first solo flight, it's an amazing feeling. Take a look at my website if you want to read about it. Soon enough you'll have a PPL in your hand and will be able to take yourself, family and friends places you (might've) never thought 🙂 I'm flying this weekend to go get lunch 🙂

That is the problem.

The Cessna requires two rubber bands. The afterburner switch is disguised as the second one.😛

I have a good friend who is a retired officer in the Air Force, recently he tried to convince me to go for a pilot training spot. I thought about it for a long time, but I couldnt get passed the fact that if everything went perfectly and I got a spot, got through training and everything, I would be committing myself for 10 years to a career I really dont know if I would like. It seems like a dream....but 10 years is a long time.

Ten years can go by very quickly. You are kept busy and challenged the whole time.

Plus you can write you own ticket when you get out; whether you stay and retire or just leave after your committment.

Tough little machine.

I miss it.
