Now, the only question is whether I should continue playing him, or send him the number of a good shrink.
 
I think that choice is obvious. Playing him will bring you (and us) lots of enjoyment. Sending him the number to a shrink or coming clean will cause nothing but dissapointment for him.

Besides, he's already pretty screwed up anyways -- a little bit of teasing won't do significant damage to him 🙂
 
If this guy is in fact playing with him, then let him.. I mean.. if he is going to spend that much time on something so stupid... uhh..

my god, another idiot with a resonator! it's obvious what this guy's problem is. without the flux capacitor to counter the temporal disturbances produced by the resonator, he's never going back farther than getting another chance to eat breakfast. even with the flux capacitor, without Whorfin's overthruster, he won't have enough juice to get him back to age 4 intact; whatever's left of his brain will be pouring out his ears.

it's fairly obvious this guy can't even read the instruction manual and it's exactly for this reason that at the last oversight council i petitioned to have the resonators put under regulation but that damn betelguise lobby killed it again because they own the production rights and as usual, couldn't give a rat's ass on who gets their hands on one.

edit: oh yeah, and as far as the guardians go, he better just pay them like everybody else does. he's a friggin fool if he thinks he's getting by them without paying.

I don't feel like sinking that low, but if I could speak with him over netmeeting and spew enough technobabble, I bet he would PayPal me some money.

So, if I'm not trying to manipulate him in order to get money, in what way should I toy with him?
 
You could a) try to convince him that he's already traveled back in time and fixed his life or b) explain to him that screwing with time screws with karma, it makes things worse, not better (that might get him off of the whole time travel kick he's on or c) tell him that time travel is very hard on the human body and requires a thorough mental checkup to proceed.
 
Some ideas:

Tell him that you're still beta testing your time machine, and you need to fix some glitches (make something funny up, but not so bad sounding that he won't want your help anymore - unless you're at the point where you want him to get the idea out of his head... in which case you could do like someone said and tell him that the adverse effects are so bad that he'd be better off staying as he is).

Say your machine splits whatever its sending back into rays of photons and then reassembles them at the desired point.. but you're still trying to determine whether or not it reassembles them correctly, since all your test subjects, after all, are back in time..... but you're working on a way to have them communicate their results with you over the time gap.

Find some websites on this sort of thing (I'm sure there are others around who believe in it too.. after all, this guy had to get his ideas from somewhere).. and use some of the info there to keep your side of the story going.

Hen, I get those cleo e-mails all the time to, I am surprised it doesn't come with a little sound bite attachment.

yea that's what i thought, but judging from the length of those emails, he's have to be at least a little crazy... there's no way a sane person could write something that long about something so weird...
 
A friend of mine got the email from this guy too, and my friend sent a response. The crazy guy sent the same long email, which makes me think he gets a lot of responses if he has a prewritten one to copy/paste.

I'm definitely not going to manipulate this guy further, now the only question is whether to tell him to get some help or not to do anything.
 
You could just send him one more e-mail. Tell him you were preparing the time machine for him and decided to test it out on your grandma. Unfortunately, a fly got into the chamber when you activated the machine, and now Granny's got bug eyes and a hairy back.

Guys, I read a fantastic bit related to this online. It seems someone engaged the author of this e-nail in AIM, and had a bit of a chat with him.
I do not have the exact link, but put "My life has been severely tampered with and cursed!!" into google, and go to the last match.
It seems this e-mail has been making the rounds, and we could have a bit of a cult phenomenon on our hands, and that is both wierd and cool at the same time, at least to me.
 
Send the guy an email that says that you think he may be from a different universe than the one we are in. The robbie (whatever his name is) that is in this universe died on october 7th 1984. Say that you are not sure why your equipment didn't detect him sooner, but he needs to go back immediately, and you have the technology to send him back. Or something to that effect.
 
very clever atlantean. However, with a name like that are you really one to talk about such things. just kidding 🙂
