Same thing happened to me about this time last year (when gas prices were going up for the summer). I thought my car was messed up, because my gas mileage seemed awful. I later figured out that some ass (probably someone in my apartment complex) was siphoning my tank. Who knows how much gas I lost. I even made a thread about it.

Since you're in the market for a new can, I can't say enough about the Briggs and Stratton Smart Fill

You turn a valve until it clicks, then turn the can with the spout straight down, put it in the tank and push down, and it stops filling when the tank is full. You cannot spill a drop.

That's one reason I've always liked Briggs and Stratton, they must have a pretty large R&D department/budget....

I just picked up a new one - some cheap tank from lowes. It's safe on my patio right now
