Is yours an LS or GS? I think the LSD was part of the handling package, which would have included dual exhaust. Not sure at all. I wouldn't even consider trying to put a 302 in there. I know what you mean about there being no room. It's a damn shame. I hear Chrysler is going to shoehorn a 5.7L V8 in a 300M, yet Ford can't fit a decent engine under the hood of the Marauder. Pathetic! :disgust:

Too bad about the room in there too. The back seat is really lacking in leg room. Pisses me off. If you want more room, look at the older Town Cars next time. You'll forget all about racing it as you slink quietly down the road. It's got plenty of power to get going and cruise, but no racing. Actually, my '94 Town Car is faster than my wife's '99 Grand Marquis from a dead stop. My son's is faster than hers too. Must be the gearing. Hers is FAR more taught in the suspension, though. The wheelbase is 3" longer on the TC. That's used for rear legroom, but the front seems to have a deeper bench too.

Oh well, maybe in the future, they'll bump the size of these things up a notch. More room inside, and more room under the hood for a monster motor! 😀

mine's an LX. i was looking at town cars but there's a severe shortage of them here, and they're way out of my price range even when they are older. I'm going to get this boat fast enough to take down the local ricers 🙂 all that won't come til next spring though, it's really hard to wrench on a car when it's -20C outside. What is the overdrive gear ratio on these(it's an AODE right?) maybe some 3.55's or 3.73 gears are in order to get it off the line. But like i said, all that will come in the spring 🙂

"...maybe some 3.55's or 3.73 gears are in order to get it off the line."

Don't know the final OD ratio, but getting it off the line isn't a problem at all. You'll probably need that LSD and wider rubber to keep from spinning. The problem is that the oomph drops off after 1st gear. In my wife's '99, it feels as though the torque converter is slipping from the start. All the newer ones I drove felt the same way. I think first gear is higher in them.

Congrats 🙂

I just got my first car less than 2 months ago. It's an old Dodge Shadow '88... but I got a good price for it 😉

Mmm, those Crown Vics are nice cars. Lots of spunk, plenty of room, and a front bench seat. (If you don't know why a front bech seat is good, you really need to get a girlfriend). Still, I'd rather have a Mark VIII like my grandfather has. 290 hp and a beautiful shape. 🙂 If you really get ambitious, you could try swapping the Mark VIII engine into a Crown Vic. Same block except that the Mark has 4 valve heads instead of 2 valve. From what I understand though, it's not too hard to get 230-240 out of the 2-valve engine in the Crown Vic. Have fun with the thing, everyone I know who's owned one has loved it.

i'm considering using either quaker state high mileage or valvoline max life in it, even though it only has 86k miles on it, maybe it'll help prevent it from using any oil. Has anyone used either?

aren't those rip-offs? Amsoil Synthetic is your friend..its expensive but seriously its worth it (in my opinion)...I seem to be getting an extra 40-50km to the tank to.

i'm not sure i want to put synthetic in a car that has been going for 86k miles with(presumably) dino-juice. last thing i need is oil leaks 😉

I wouldn't bother either. Its a crown vic not a lotus turbo or something. Synthetic is better but its not that much better alteast for your average car.

Shouldn't a lot of the same crap that works on Mustang 4.6l work on the crown vic 4.6l or is the computer just not up to any modifications?
