<< . I took his question as an insult because I think he has false beliefs and was trying to force it on me. >>

You should hope that i'm never on your jury then, because if you used that justification for assaulting someone who simply said something like, "you look like a sinner," you're going to jail.

<< By the way, are you a Christian, and how would you react if a, oh say, a Pagan came up to you and asked you have you expected the Demon god into your life?" Perhaps you would be offended by something like that. >>

Yes, i'm a Christian, if that makes a difference. And if someone, Pagan or not, attempted to hold a conversation with me that i had no desire to engage in, i would walk away, simple as that. My mind wouldn't turn to thoughts of beating the sh!t out of someone, if i were in your situation, and i could simply walk away. Your reaction of wanting to commit violence is psychologically unhealthy.

<< glenn1> You are intitled to your opinion. I took his question as an insult because I think he has false beliefs and was trying to force it on me. >>

I would laugh at him and say "No, I am a Christian. Wanna see my Bible?" and then probably laugh even harder when he ran away. :)

So, say, if someone said you looked like a emmber of his church or something, would you beat the sh!t out of him too?

I suppose he wouldn't, but that's not an insult though. Come on now, imagine being a virgin and going up to a woman and saying "Are you gonna stop doing it? You look like a whore"

glenn1 You gotta take things with a grain of salt, sport ;)
I would never physically hurt someone over a verbal conflict. It's one thing to think and another to act upon.

Why not start a pleasant conversation about the latest developments in superstring-theory?

BTW I like Killbat's suggestion too ;)

personally i can see what he's talking about, just the fact that u were thinking those things in your head is weird. if somebody said that to me i'd just be like uh, ok and walk away. i have better things to worry about. i'd definitely not be thinking about kicking his arse. of course i'm a girl hehe :) it's offensive what he said, but you're gonna meet stupid people that are going to disrespect u all the time. no need to think violent thoughts on them! :p besides, i can think of a lot more rude things for him to say since i don't believe in christianity or whatever it was he was into, calling me a sinner really doesn't offend me. if he knew what he was talking about he'd know that we're all sinners. isn't that how their religion goes?

weezergirl> Well, I've had a somewhat different experience with religion than a number of people on here. Religious affliction was the major issue for why my family moved to the US. It's a long story and would even make a longer thread, so I won't go into it. It's easy to throw out suggestions on how I should have handled it, in this sterile environment of a thread, but life is many things and sometimes requires harsher options. Perhaps there is the one truth to believe in.

you have to be careful who you antagonize. this dude may not be altogether there and
could have unleashed a few repressed satanic sex abuse memories. a little push and
could two could have been featured in the next issue of the national enquirer.

<< false beliefs >>

umm
beliefs are called that because they can't be proven or disproven to a degree of acceptable certainty. That's why they are beliefs.

But as for your encounter, does it matter? Is the anger you feel worth it?

The dude obviously doesn't know jack about appologetics. It prolly would have gone well if he wasn't like "you look like a sinner." That would have pissed me off, too. But if I were that guy, was retarded, said that, and you attacked me, I'd prolly still win anyway. :)

I'm sorry that we get shamed everywhere we turn and make a disgrace of our faith.

gar598> Our library has a real nice selection of DVDs. They even have the new ones when they come out. The librarian told me that she buys new ones for the library at BArnes & Noble all the time. You should check your library as well.

<< Look like a sinner? How the hell can anyone look like a sinner when everyone IS a sinner. Some of the extremist Christians bother me about my faith, the way I was taught you should live to be a good person and not try to force others your way, but certainly encourage them. Someone sitting in their car waiting to ask people if they're saved definately should not be looked at as a represenatitve of the entire religion. >>

Absolutly, by saying he looks like a sinner he is sugesting that he isn't and therfor he can't be a real christian but a ultra right wing christian type. He would have no problem just standing there and talking about god till you died so its not worth argueing with him. You should have called the police and had him given a ticket for disturbing the peace.

There was this total fruitcake who used to hang out at the library and try to save everybody (not a fruitcake just for that by the way, he had 'issues'). We constantly got bombarded from the guy because we practically lived at the library so pretty soon we took to wearing pentagrams, upside down crosses, painting our faces, even wearing our halloween robes whenever we went down there. Started moving our D&D roleplaying group to the library basement too, just to make certain we had plenty of anti-bible-thumpers running around.

At first he was shocked. Then he got mad. Pretty soon it nearly came to assault from the guy as he became convinced that we were the evil cult he had been placed on the planet to oppose. He quickly got banned from the library, then he was arrested like a dozen times for accosting people on the street to save them. Spent a few months in a psych hospital for it. Last I heard he had moved to california.

Ahhh, thanks for the memories, hadn't thought about that loon in quite a while.

this makes my wonder how effective these religios types are at "saving people"
do they really ever convert anyone this way? they all seem to think it will work for some reason.

theres a guy at my school, "bible jim" who always tries to convert people in our main square. he asks the same sort of questions: "have you been saved?" but it never works, because the only people who care what he has to say are the other bible thumpers, and everyone else just watches and makes fun of him.

you know what? they believe that the church thing is a good thing. they think that god and jesus can save people and they honestly believe that its in YOUR best interest to turn you to jesus. that man thought he was helping you and in turn you wanted to beat him.

im not a church type but i dont understand how people can get so angry when people think that by helping you finding god and jesus they can help save your soul. they arent doing it for themselves, they are doing it because they want to help you.

just answer his question and walk away, just politly tell them no thanks and close the door, how hard is hard is that?

*kat. <-- not "saved"

what an arrogant SOB. Id be pissed as hell if someone told me i "looked like a sinner." is he jesus christ? does he pick out the sinners? if LORDMAUL doesnt understand why this would be offensive, lets put it in a different context. what if you were walking down the street and someone asked you if your mother was a prostitute...cause you looked like your mom was a whore. you'd wanna throw some punches too.
