Next time get your vacation on paper. I have found that managers would rather fire you than look stupid in front of their boss.

who takes a 3 week vacation after working somewhere for 6 months anyway? i've never worked a job that would allow that.

edit: i guess it's been quite awhile since i've had a crappy mall job.

F them. That's complete BS. You don't want to work for a company that doesn't have any kind of leniency what-so-ever.

It's supposed to be a relationship, not a dictatorship.

Pretty much. Obviously there was a communication disconnect here.

It amazes me that this could have happened - doesn't your boss prepare a weekly schedule? Every hourly job I've had has had a weekly schedule posted.

No show, no call, no job (without a really good excuse like being in the hospital) is pretty normal for jobs like these, and it's justified. A lot of teenagers who want to have off Saturday night will just not show up for work.

But in this case, the OP did give advance notice and I think his boss is trying to save face over the poor communication by not telling his boss why the OP didn't show up.

so everything was going peachy today, and my week just got ruined!
about a month ago i old my manager i was going on a trip to israel and i was leaving a day before may and comming back on the 20th.
i recieved a txt message from my manager today at about 1.45pm asking me how we're doing today (i work for a cell kiosk inside sams).
i replied, what do you mean?! my vacation started today!

and from there it just got ugllyy.. we were supposed to open @ 10am
my manager said i told him the 1st of may (tomarrow)
he said i pulled a no call, now show
i told him..no there was a mis-communication!
i told him aright, well ill come in to finish of my shify.
i get there at 2.30 and he was there..he told me he'd give me another chance because n the 6 months iv worked there iv never had this kind of problem, but the new DM is a bitch (literally, thats what he told me) and she has a no tollerence policy on no show, no call..so he has no way to do anything but let go of me. he said to give him a call when i get back and he mite be able to get me back...

regardless, i think its BS iv worked there for 6 months, perfect track record and iv been selling alot lately...and then this happens
all my friends agree its messed up, and im pretty sure tehres gotta be some sorta way to do a formal appeal or whatever...anyway its been a shiety morning

what are peoples thoughts on this?

think i could go above DM? or does that not even make sense..

How about you use your 6 months worth of valuable experience to get a new job at one of the other ten million cell phone kiosks within a mile of your previous job?

at 20 years old, $8.15 + commission is WEAK.

He must go to a top school with his spelling skills!

Holy hell, I hope you didn't have to write anything down on that job. Get a spell-checker. You have the intelligence of a chair.

8.15/hr with commission at 20 is not a decent job. Now you know that any request like this one should be in writing to avoid confusion.

Yeah, did you read that grammar and stumble over that spelling? Nuff said.

Dude, just go get another job. The great thing about jobs like that is that you can just get another one, and another one, and skip the crappy ones on your "last three jobs you worked" part of the resume. Just go get another one. A dollar less an hour isn't going to impair your doing absolutely nothing. I doubt I'd walk in somewhere demanding a 3 week vacation after 6 mos. though.
