Sharing dirt on them could get you in legal trouble... so you may want to keep reasonably quiet on that front.

They are way overpriced, that's all the dirt we need to know. Anybody that buys a system from them is a fool.

Well, depending on what kind of a-holes they are, they could just file a lawsuit even if they have no legal grounds. I used to work for a company that used to pull that kind of crap as an intimidation tactic.

Is alienware based out of one city only? My friend was playing around online and maxxed out a system close to $15k if i remember correctly. BB just started carrying those recently, right?

Yep. Most companies have standard paperwork they have you sign when starting employment with them. One of the pieces will say something to the effect of, "You promise not to talk about how the business works and you can be sued if you do." It's usually tucked in with the W-4 forms and such.

Let me guess they are going to cut down the build time per machine to 4 days instead of 5? ;)

Do a search for alienware in ATOT...

spill the dirt though...provided you can do it anonymously of course...

Depends on the employment laws in the state. In California, employment is terminable at will, meaning an employer can fire you for any reason whatsoever.
Unfortunately, many employees are dirtbags and still try to collect money...surprising how many people get sore just because they lack basic job skills. :|

Sometimes you don't. You might sign away that right on a job application. For example on a fed-ex application it says:

"The applicant agrees to the following:

Conform to the rules and regulations of FedEX Ground/Home Delivery. Acknowledges that applicant's employment shall be at the will of FedEx Ground/Home Delivery subject to termination without recourse at any time for any or no reason."

"No reason"??? Get clarification on that. A reason must be given.

Severance pay after six months? Nah.

As for retaliation, don't bother. Just chalk it up to experience and move on with your life.

you got "laid off" 'your position was eliminated' 'we need to reduce expenses' blah blah blah...

don't take it personally if you we're doing a good job...it happens, the economy is rough right now, especially with a computer company.

it's cliche, but "DON'T BURN YOUR BRIDGES!" you never know when you'll need a reference, or wind up working with someone from that company again. Also, don't be 'mr. negative' during interviews...just be honest, everyone knows that layoffs are common these days.

first update your resume...then call everyone that you worked with there, or maybe just knew from seeing them in the hall, and NETWORK! tell them you were laid off and want to know if they might have some advice or leads for you (don't ask them directly for a job, just see if they know someone that is looking for people).

don't be shy about it...tell your neighbors, your friends, your relatives, etc that you are looking for a job...

good luck!

Not necessarily. At-will employment basically states that either the employee or employer can terminate employment with a company at any reason for no reason.

BTW, GO WINGS!

CtK -- From what you've posted, it sounds like you got the shaft. Rather than looking for advice from OT "wannabe lawyers," I think it's time to talk to a real one who knows something about employment problems.

Good luck. :)
