i just got a hardware developer in a heap of trouble maybe even fired.

If it's her hardware she can call it whatever the hell she wants unless there's a specific corp policy that states otherwise.

anyway something tells me she was not to worried about getting fired. probably a good thing for her to change jobs.

having a place say we can't get a computer for you so bring in your personal computer to use. well that would make me worried about working for them and i would be looking for a diffrent job.

she did it. we did push trend out to to her laptop so that it had AV and it was not named f*ckyou and we most definatly did not have a workgroup named bitch on our network.

ill see if i can get a screenshot before the cache expires.

So you put a single AV program onto a personal computer before letting it on the network? Woah boy...

we did more but really didnt want to type it all out. i mentioned trend because we pushed it to her computer name while it was in our lab and before she was allowed to take it to her cube.

I don't use any of my personal hardware for work purposes, nor do I use any of work's hardware for home.

Of course I do use company bandwidth ... but that is a little different 😛

I would just claim not to have a personal computer and let them pay me for doing nothing until they bought me one.

What kind of retarded IT department lets the clients plug a personal laptop into the corporate network? 😕

we only have as much power as the company officers lets us have. we voiced our concerns but were overuled.

the thing is if she is that disgruntled we are just waiting for the call of

OMGWTFBBQ ALL OUR FILES ARE GONE!!!! from the hardware dept.

Yes, private systems on the company network is a big hell no.

Why wouldn't they buy her a system?

As much power as your co. officers let you have..

Don't you have a company security policy?

You don't have government contracts, do you?

EDIT: this all sounds very strange.. is she a reg. full time employee?

no idea. they have a grumpy old dude up there running that dept and he can be a hard headed ass at times. this is one of those times.

you should have seen him when we migrated from NT to 2003, he totally chewed my ass in the hallway because his screen saver comes on every 15 min and did not like it and wanted it back to the way it was.

i was professional about it, and my boss heard it 10 doors down. i told my boss that if that man ever and i mean ever talks to me like that again there is going to be a problem.

Make a formal written notice right now to your higher-ups stating that you will not be responsible for data integrity, security, viruses, lost data, expenses, etc, on anything that has to do with her personal system, as it's outside of your control.

Edit - Oh, and put her on a VLAN. By herself. 😛

wow, what a backwards security policy.

Someone, aka Director or VP of it, needs to sit down and explain the implications of this on a corperate network to the powers that be.

I think you deserve a better job.

Ha, she's my new hero for doing that! On a side note, your company must be pretty fcuking inept to let her use her own laptop on company servers. How does she not get a computer? You're only asking for trouble having people plug their own machines in.

i made a thread about him several months about when we turned on the profanity filter on our exchange server. he came down here really pissed because his email was getting rejected. i looked at the rejects and he had profanity in the body of the email and i told him thats why he could not send that email in it. his next words to me were and i quote.

"why in the f*ck do we need to block profanity"

ROFL, I like the guy already 🙂

Your company is lucky she didn't bring in a pc full of worms, virii, and trojans.

If I were here I would have sat in my cube (sounds like an "office space" atmosphere)
until I was issued a computer. I mean, how is she supposed to do her TPS reports
without a company computer??
